James Barnes and family moved to Barnes Gap, Ray's Hill, in southern Bedford Co. (now Fulton Co.), PA in 1777. This is very near the MD border. They came from MD, originally the Baltimore area. The person living on adjoining land in PA is a Caleb Barnes and wife, Honor Stephens of Baltimore. They moved to PA in 1770. Because of DNA tests, we now know James and Caleb were closely related. James and family move to KY ca. 1787, where James dies in Nelson Co. in 1795. Due to the age of his oldest child and the age of his last wife, James was likely born in the 1720's. James' children are Abel, Mary Bell, Ruth, Samuel, Jemima, Elijah and Archibald. Abel returns to Barnes Gap, PA, marries Mary Poole and has 8 children; 1. Mahala, who marries Adam Zembower 2. Abel, m. Margaret Bishop 3. Catherine 4. Lloyd, m. Eliza Smith 5. Eliza Jane, m. Jacob Snider 6. Samuel, m. Cordelia ? 7. George Washington, m. Sarah Ann Diehl 8. Archibald, m. Mary Ann Mills. The rest of the family stay in KY. James 1st wife is unknown and dies in KY, last wife is Hannah Hynes (1721-1804). James children in Ky; Samuel Barnes m. Lydia Willcocks, Samuel d. before 1859 in Illinois, location unknown. children: James m. Mildred Berry, John m. Martha Eagleton, Reason m. Phoebe Dunn,Thomas m. Maria Wimsatt, Robert H. m. Judith B.
