Amarillo Globe-News Amarillo, Texas 02-17-05 MIAMI - Sanford Ottis Barnes, 70, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, in Amarillo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Martin Road Chapel in Amarillo, 1505 Martin Road, with Dan Shaeffer officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Miami Cemetery. Mr. Barnes moved to Miami in 1974 from Tarzan. He graduated from Gotebo High School in Gotebo, Okla., in 1953. Mr. Barnes then served in the Army in Germany. He retired from Cabot Corp. in 1987 after 25 years. Mr. Barnes was a bookkeeper and produced and sold honey. He also bred and exhibited Quarter Horses for many years. He loved going to the lake and fishing. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Miami. He was preceded in death by a brother, Theron "Sonny" Barnes in 2001 in Amarillo; and his father, Sanford O. Barnes in Hobart, Okla., in 1988. Survivors include two daughters, Denise Nelson of Dallas and Kristi Guzinsky of Amarillo; his mother, Alen Barnes; a brother, Manlif "Shorty" Barnes of Birmingham, Ala.; and four grandchildren, Rhiannon Griffin, Jonathan Griffin, DeLaney Guzinsky and Darlen Guzinsky. The family suggests memorials be to The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis in Miami, Fla. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 17, 2005 Janice Griffin
