Hi to all, just read the last digest to come out and wondered if you were talking about the same family as my own. I know my Barnes came from Chatham co, NC, where Brinsley Barnes was living. However, I have no idea about they were related or not. Would be interested in sharing information, and would love to know if DNA studies have been done on this family. My husband took part in the Paine family DNA study and proved his line back to the 1600's in VA. This is going to be great for genealogy eventually. I believe Lilburn Barnes' brother Thomas Barnes, married Elizabeth Bowling, daughter of Manning Bowling and Mary (Polly) Mangum, daughter of Daniel Mangum. Lilburn Barnes, married Mary Waits, their daughter Mary Jane Barnes, married my great grandfather Thomas Carothers Mangum, son of Wiley P. Mangum and Mary McSwain. Mary Jane Barnes Mangum, died 1906 in Craighead County, Arkansas. Her brother William Carroll Barnes died in Arkansas. Mary Waits, born in GA, was 1/2 Native America (Cherokee) I believe Lilburn Barnes was also 1/2 Native American. This Barnes family was intermarried into Benjamin Huddleston's family. Benjamin Huddleston was from SC, he married Margaret Welch she was full blood Native American. I believe Seth Barnes born 1770 in North Carolina, was the father of Lilburn and Thomas Barnes.
