Seeking any information on Samuel R. Barnes. Sorry, but I don't know much about him. He was born ca. 1805 in Nelson Co., KY. Samuel R. Barnes died in MS in 1839, but location is a mystery. I do not know the name of Samuel's wife, but left a son Edwin F. Barnes. Samuel's parents were Elijah Barnes and Rachel Willcocks. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I.m sorry, but I don't have a Gideon in my database. I have the names of the children of each generation in my own direct line but do not have the names of the children of each of these. Can you give me any dates for Gideon and was he from Southampton or Isle of Wight Cos. VA? I had intended to go there this weekend to do some research, but had other obligations that did not make it possible. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jen's Gen" <jensgen@earthlink.net> To: "Addice Thomas" <addice36@mywesties.com> Sent: Thursday, January 01, 2004 7:24 PM Subject: Re: [BARNES] Barnes - Southampton Co., VA > Is this the line that Gideon Barnes and his brothers who all moved to GA > descended from ?

I am relatively new to your mailing list. For years I have been trying to solve the mystery of my great grandfather Alanson W. Barnes and his brother Edwin, their family, and birthplace in NY State. I am seeking information on Edwin W. Barnes born 1834 in NY State. Edwin is my great uncle and until very recently I only had knowledge of him from an 1880 Steele Co MN Federal Census, where he was enumerated at the farm of my great grandfather Alanson W. Barns (mispelled on 1880 census) who was also born in NY State in 1836. Recently, knowledge of another Edwin W. Barnes in MI came to my attention. This Edwin lived in Newaygo Co as a farmer and later Ionia Co as an employee at the state prison system. The same Edwin was a member of the MI 7th Cavalry, CO K. This Edwin was married to Alma French. I am trying to determine if the 2 Edwin's are one and the same. Both are the same age, and both born in NY State. I am aware that the Edwin from MI was enumerated in the Big Prairie, Newayco Co Twp in 1880. The enumeration for Newaygo and Berlin, Steele Co MO were done on different dates, so it is possible that Edwin may have traveled from MI to MN and been counted twice. We have never known who the parents of Edwin and Alanson were, nor do we know where in NY they were born. ANY information would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you. Gena Gates Lally
Denise, Hi and welcome to the Barnes list, can you tell us what area your Barnes were in? Mine are pretty much all in KY and prior to that MD,NC and my grandfather said Ireland. I am back to MD. Hello, My name is Denise Prince. My paternal grandmother was a Barnes, and if anyone has any information they would like to share, I would love to gain a clue into this side of my family. The following is all I know. Grandmother: Sadie Mauderie (Barnes) Prince. (I do not have a birth date for her, she died in January 1963) Married Frederick Patrick Prince (unk date). I do not have any information on her parents, however, I know that her siblings were Esco (married Lilly?); Rosco (wife Sally: children Frank, Mauderie, Paul, Elbert) (Esco and Rosco were twins) Lester (wife Dolly? with 5 children: Parnell, Francess, Wylene, Claude, and Douglas) May (Mae?) Mollie L. I realize that my information is scattered. My Father never spoke much about his family and this information is what I could gather from an elderly Aunt who cared fro my Grandfather prior to his death. ANy help would be much appreciated. Denise Prince
Hello! It's been a while since I posted my line, so here it is again. I am looking for information on a Henry C. Barnes married to Mary Payne living in Van Zandt County Texas on the 1870 and 1880 census. They had 4 children, that I know of. They were William Wylie, James Albert, Victoria, and Laura. I can not find a sign of Henry or Mary after the 1880 census. All of the children with the exception of Laura were in Anderson County, TX on the 1900 census. I think that my Henry may have been the son of Ebenezer Barnes and Elizabeth Idella Hicks. I have been unable to prove that. Ebenezer and his family moved in to Sabine County Texas sometime in the early 1850's. They had a son by the name of Henry C. who was also born in MS in the 1840's. I would really appreciate any information on either of these families. Thanks! Debbie

Happy New year all... after several years abstinence I am going to continue working on family lines....... Barnes is my maternal side. When I last left it, Joseph Barnes, born 4-18-10 in Penn., place unknown, was last spotted (going backwards in time) in 1840 in Crawford Co., Pennsylvania. They lived next door to John Medlam, who was the father of Joseph's wife, Susan. Their children were named (in order of birth) Mary, John , Elizabeth, Joseph, William, Matthew, Sarah. If I follow that the children, Mary & John were named after Susan's parents (who were John & Mary Medlam), then I would expect that Elizabeth and Joseph would be Joseph's parentage. However, it has always been rumored that Joseph's father was a man named John Barnes and that he died when Joseph was a small child, but I have been unable to confirm any of this. My other mystery is Joseph's second wife, Sarah Christford, from whom my line descends. They were married Sept. 10, 1855 in Albia, Monroe Co., Iowa. She was listed as a "widow" on the marriage license. I have been unable to locate her maiden name anywhere or even a Christford lineage in either Iowa or Penn. If anyone can shed some light on these mysteries I would appreciate it. My website for further information on collateral lines is: http://www.geocities.com/RainForest/Andes/4144/page4.html I have only listed 3 or 4 generations of each line due to privacy issues but will be happy to send further information to researchers. Is anyone researching the BARNES family of Southampton Co., VA? How are they related to the Buxton Family? My line is Joshua Barnes 1709 - 1762.
Brenda, I have a Thomas Taylor Reeder in my Reeder line. He was born about 1835. I don't believe he ever married, but could your Thomas Taylor Reeder have been related and perhaps named for him. Do you know his parents? Or perhaps my Thomas Taylor Reeder was named for yours, since Thomas was not the name of the father or either of the grandfathers of mine. Also, where were your Reeder lines from? It would be great to make a connection. I have a marriage license for Minnie Barnes to Frank Olay dtd 5/8/1888, in the county of Desha, in Arkansas, and another to Alex Wyne dtd 9/18/1892, in the county of Arkansas, in Arkansas. I know that she is related but not sure how. I think she might have been my father's aunt. If anyone can prove to be directly related I would love to get these two documents to them.
