While the BARNES list is so active I hope that some of you will recognize my BARNES mystery woman. I am searching for information about Delia Barnes Crossnoe of Perry County, TN. According to her death certificate Delia was born December 11, 1890 in Wayne County, TN and died August 13, 1980 In Linden, Perry County, TN. She married Wyle Benjamin Crossnoe on June 14, 1908. Her death certificate states that her parents have "Done been reported." Her social security application states that her father was James Harvey BARNES. I have been unable to locate this family in census information. The 1910 Perry County, TN Census lists her brother, Fred, living in the household. Can anyone tell me the names of the parents and siblings of Delia BARNES? I will appreciate any clues. Thanks!

I will be posting again later today, but most of my BARNES wills are from the South. If they migrated to the Carolinas like many did from New England, it is possible they could be in some of my records. Also, most, if not all, are early wills. Later, Audrey
My question to the list: Has anyone come across a BARNES family in New York or "western" New England which includes these names: DAVID BARNES, GILBERT BARNES, and THOMAS BARNES. They could have been Quakers, and they most surely were loyal to the British during the Revolutionary War. Or they may be sons of a Loyalist. One may be the father of the other two. They were adults in 1826 so were most likely born in the late 1700s. I base my query on the assessment records for Northumberland County, Ontario (Canada) between 1826 and 1835: David Barnes Gilbert Barnes Thomas Barnes Each of these settlers apparently received land grants from the Crown and arrived in Northumberland County at the same time as many Loyalists or children of Loyalists. The majority of such settlers were from the Hudson Valley, others came from northern New Jersey, or western Connecticut, Massachusetts or Vermont. I believe the son of one of these men is my gggrandfather, John Barnes b. about 1822 in Ontario. Any amount of help will be greatly appreciated. Judy Penski

Thank you, Joe, for the additional information. The Ransom Barnes in Hall Co, GA is very interesting and a good lead for further research. I'll keep you posted if I discover anything. After many years of searching your information is the first promising information, about the family of Charlotte Martha Barnes, that has come my way. Thanks again. Dear Joe, I'm not sure where my Charlotte Martha Barnes was born, but some family information suggests SC or GA. Her husband was born in NC about 1780. One of his brothers m in Columbia Co, GA. I find the name of your Ransom Barnes interesting because Charlotte M. Barnes and her husband, Owen J. Ellis, named a son Ransom. Also, a William Barnes resided close to Charlotte & Owen on several MS censuses. I wonder if our families are connected. Is anyone else researching Seth Barnes, born about 1770 in North Carolina? I'm especially interested in finding the names of his children. I'm trying to find out if he is the father of Lilburn Barnes who was born about 1800 and died in 1837/8 in Yalobusha County, Mississippi. I am also interested in finding out if Seth had a son named Thomas. Thanks! Juli Morgan
Until November of 2002 I had made little progress on my Barnes line....Then I had an email from another researcher inquiring about a post to an Ohio County site....That email was the beginning of breaking through the brickwall I had been at for a few years....In time and with many more emails this researcher and I found out that we were 3rd cousins..... She and I have the same g-g-grandparents.....You can imagine our excitement when we were able to start putting the pieces to our puzzle together....We have now been able to find all of the children born to our gg-grandparents and their spouses and have moved on to finding our ggg-grandparents who we know lived in the Philadelphia area.... Below is the information we have been able to gather on our Barnes family in Pa...This info is from census and city directory files...... James Barnes b. ? d. before 1868 Catherine b. abt 1794 d. ? I believe this couple are the James Lukens Barnes and Catherine Miller that were married in Montgomery County, Pa in 1814..... Children: John Lukens b. abt 1816 d. 1851 David Lenox b. September 14, 1818 d. 1897 Edith L. b. abt 1826 H. B. (possibly Hannah) b. abt 1823 Catherine b. abt 1829 John Lukens Barnes married a Margaret from Virginia.... They had a daughter Catherine..... John died in Pickaway County, Oh and is buried next to 3 children of David Lenox Barnes and his wife Margaret.... David Lenox Barnes married Margaret J. Shannon 1841 in Pickaway County, Oh..... Edith Barnes was not married at age 50.... H. B. Barnes married a Pennock Catherine Barnes married Allen Middleton who was an iron dealer in Philadelphia...She died between 1860-1870.. I believe that James Barnes is from Horsham Twp., Montgomery County, Pa and is related to the Lukens and Palmer families..... Both of these surnames were used as middle names of several in the family..... If anyone has any information on this family I would love to hear from you... ..I have much information on my line and will gladly share.... Thank you, Pat (Barnes) Zielinski

BARNES - Untangling the Descendants of Thomas, Thomas, Thomas and Thomas As Barnes' genealogists, researchers and family members know, four Thomas Barnes migrated from England to America from approximately 1634 to 1656. They all settled geographically close, by today's standards, namely Massachusetts and Connecticut. We believe our research has kept these families from being co-mingled, despite given names and close dates of birth being duplicated and triplicated in each family. Thomas Barnes, designated as Thomas of Hingham, came to the colony of Massachusetts and settled at Hingham circa 1634. He was born in England in 1602 and died in Hingham, 29 November 1672. Thomas Barnes, referred to as Thomas of New Haven, came to New Haven, Connecticut when still a boy, in 1635. He signed the Colony Constitution in 1644. He was born 26 August 1623 in England and died 10 June 1691 at Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut. Thomas Barnes, characterized as Thomas of Marlboro, came to America on the ship Speedwell in 1656 and settled in Marlboro, Massachusetts. He was born 18 October 1636 in Barking, Essex, England and died circa 1697 in Marlboro, Middlesex, Massachusetts. Thomas Barnes, whom we entitled Thomas of Hartford, set sail from England to the West Indies on the Second of September 1635 on the ship William and John and was transported to Saint Kitts or Saint Christophers. Thomas possibly arrived in New England on a trading schooner from the West Indies. He was born circa 1615 in Essex County, England and died in 1688 in Farmington, Hartford, Connecticut. This Thomas Barnes is the Progenitor of the Barnes family of Hartford, CT.
The June 2004 Reeder Family Reunion I know that some of the pictures do not work, it's 4 am and I will debug it tomorrow. I'll also add in the picture names for the ones Gail and Darrell have identified. I have sent Reed Hopkins copies of the unidentified photos, hopefully I will hear from him soon. My next step is to find hotel, RV park, and reunion site locations and get those posted. http://home.comcast.net/~reederfamilyreunion/ Brenda
Hello Listers - I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday. I thought I would start out the new year by posting my Barnes line. The earliest I know of is : William Barnes who was born abt 1754, in Petersburg, VA and died about 1801 in Franklin County Georgia. [If this is our John Barnes father, then his father died just before or just after the birth of John.] William Barnes married Mary "Molly"_____. John Barnes. [John was the son of William Barnes and Mary "Molly" ______.] John was born about 1800, however where or when died is still unknown, we lost track of him in 1836 TX when he joined the TX Militia. He married Tabitha Mobley, Mar 4, 1823 in Jasper Co., GA. Tabitha was the daughter of Jethro Mobley & Esther Lovejoy. Eldridge M. Barnes [ the son of John Barnes and Tabitha Mobley], was born Oct 7, 1827 in Georgia, and died Jul 1, 1900, Alexander City, Tallapossa Co., AL. He married Mary E.
