Here is data I have on George Barnes, his son and his grandson, etc.: My gr-gr-gr grandfather was George Barnes (b. 30 May 1760 - d. 30 Dec. 1853) m. Anne (or Anna) Foster [I have no locations except a notation that both were of "English Descent".] Their son "William Barnes" was my gr-gr-grandfather. He was born 29 Apr 1801 in Morgantown, Morgan Co., IN, d. July 14 1875, m. Thressa Shouse on 14 July 1825. Thressa was born in KY. William and Thressa had 10 children: 1. Elizabeth b. 27 Apr 1826, d. 27 Apr. 1826 2. John C. - b. 25 Dec. 1827, Morgantown, Morgan Co., IN; married Caroline Davidson, 23 Nov. 1849 3. Lydia - b. 16 Oct 1829; d. 12 Feb. 1882; m. 8 Oct 1854 Jesse Williams 4. David - b. 3 Nov. 1831; d. 16 Feb. 1833. 5. Oliver Perry - b. 21 Nov. 1833, Morgantown, Morgan Co., IN; d. 9 Feb. 1909, Asotin, Asotin Co., WA; m. Minerva Kilgore on 21 Jan 1858 at Princeton, Mercer Co., MO. Minerva was b. 25 Dec. 1833 in Lexington, Lafayette Co., MO, d. 5 Dec. 1922, Cove, Union Co., OR. [Minerva's father, Andrew Kilgore was born 1800-1804 in KY. Her mother, Alba Wellington was b. 1808-1808 in KY.] (Oliver and MInverva were my gr-grandparents.) 6. Aaron William - b. 4 Feb. 1836; d. 21 Nov. 1862; m. 21 Jan. 1858, Sarah Kilgore (sister of Minerva above) 7. Stephen R. - b.5 June 1838; d. 2 Oct. 1838 8. Harriet - b. 11 Feb 1841, d. 8 Aug. 1851 9. George Warren - b. 13 Feb. 1843, d. 8 Aug. 1878; m. Mary Lord 10. Mary Emeline Barnes - b. 28 Aug. 1845, d. 3 July 1904; m. 9 Nov. 1885 William Kennedy. Several of these siblings seem to be living at Mercer, Mercer Co., MO at the beginning of the Civil War in 1860. In 1862, Oliver Perry & Minerva and the first two of their 10 children moved by wagon train over the Oregon Trail to Cove, Union Co., OR. His brother, George and his family, a widowed sister and perhaps other siblings, moved in the same wagon train. After their children were grown, both Oliver Perry and his brother George moved from Cove, OR to Asotin, Asotin Co., OR. If you have any data, connections, or corrections, please reply to the list or directly. I will pleased to share a little more that I have on these persons. Jim

Hello All, I am looking for any information on Jane BARNES born about 1723 possibly in Leicester, MA. Her parents may be Samuel and Martha BARNES. Jane married Captain William S. BLAIR on Feb. 21, 1745 at Leicester, MA. Capt. William and Jane BLAIR and family came to Colchester County, Nova Scotia in the spring of 1760. Captain William BLAIR, 1716/18 - 1791, first came to Nova Scotia on military duty in the year of 1758 to assist in subduing the French and the taking of Louisbourg. Capt. BLAIR served for three years under Colonel Winslow. After Louisbourg was captured, he visited the Cobequid Bay area where he was able to view the lands vacated by the Acadians in 1755. He returned to New England and was relieved from military duty. He came again to Nova Scotia and brought with him his wife,(married about 1740)Jane BARNES,born 1723 - Jan 8,1814,and family in the spring of 1760. His brother Francis came with him. They settled in the old French village of Dugoto, now called North River,Colchester County,Nova Scotia - near Truro. He is supposed to have settled on an old abandoned French Acadian farm on the interval of North and Salmon Rivers. William and Francis were Grantees of the township of Onslow but Francis sold his land for eight dollars and returned to Boston. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance. Cindy Donovan

(aep) Note: 1. It is my belief that most of these families of Wake County, NC are from Isle of Wight County, VA. 2. I also believe that BRASFIELD is a corruption, or vice versa, of BRASWELL. BARNES-BRASWELL-UNDERWOOD-JONES-POWELL-FORT-POOLE all make connections in I.O.W., VA. Many of these families migrated into SC. 3. If these records are placed with I.O.W., VA, Johnston Co, NC, Orange Co, NC and Wake Co, NC, they appear to be of the same family group(s), therefore following BARNES from early VA along the migration route. Sorry folks, I forgot to say that Wood/Wirt County area is in West Virginia. This is my first posting so please bear with me. I will try to do better in the future. Edna J. Barnes
My husband's grandfather was William Oliver Barnes. It is believed that he came to the Wood/Wirt County area during the Oil & Gas Boom. His father is listed as James Barnes and his mother is listed as Lavernie Webb, dau. of Forg Webb. Lavernie's siblings are listed asa Robert, Steve, Alice, Jennie, Sophronie, Nettie & Blanche. This info was found in the family Bible, unfortunately without any dates. My husband is 65 yrs. old; his father, Fred O. Barnes, would have been 90 yrs. old if living. Perhaps this info might help pin down some clues. Thanks for reading & I hope someone recognizes part of this! Edna J. Barnes dejb@wirefire.com
