    1. Barnes descendant chart
    2. George Davis
    3. Some time back I got a very lengthy Barnes descendant chart, most likely from someone on the Barnes list, that began with Descendants of Barnes (1) Generation No. 1 1. BARNES1 (1) Child of BARNES (1) is: 2. i. JAMES (1)2 BARNES, b. 1681, England; d. June 13, 1726, Baltimore, Maryland. Generation No. 2 2. JAMES (1)2 BARNES (BARNES1 (1)) was born 1681 in England, and died June 13, 1726 in Baltimore, Maryland. He married KETURA SHIPLEY, daughter of ADAM SHIPLEY and LOIS HOWARD. She was born 1685 in Anapolis, Anne Arundell Co. Maryland, and died 1730 in Anapolis, Anne Arundell Co. Maryland. If anyone recognizes this chart I'd appreciate hearing from you. Thanks - George

    3. Hello Barnes Researchers: ROSCOE CONKLING BARNES was born May 8, 1850 in Mount Morris, NY and died Feb. 8, 1915 in Chicago. IL. He was a Major League player 1876-1881 with Chicago and Boston in the National League. In 1876 while at Chicago he won the league batting title while hitting .404 He was an infielder playing second base and shortstop. I am most interested in learning of his ancestors and descendants and any related genealogical material for a book I am working on the very early major league players. I do not need any of his baseball records. Thank you most kindly for your assistance. Harold Oliver Director America's First Families

    1. Re: [BARNES] OLIVER BARNES 1841 CENSUS
    2. Hi Sue, Two brothers, Oliver Weldon Barnes and William Henry Barnes, were my g-g uncle and g-g grandfather and lived in western Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh. They were both involved in building what became the Pennsylvania Railroad. Their parents were Henry Barnes and Marilla Weldon, who came from Connecticut and earlier from Massachusetts. Click on this URL for more very interesting information: http://www.personal.psu.edu/faculty/c/j/cjr9/Subtitle/Latrobe%20History/Beginning.htm If these are the people you are looking for, please let me know how you are related to them. I have a lot of information on William Henry, but not so much on Oliver and would like to know more. Thanks. Tony Barnes Phone: 860.434.0627 Mobile: 917.721.3230 Email: jhbarnes@cs.com

    1. A helpful note from the list manager -- proper posting
    2. Jen's Gen
    3. I have had several new subscribers added to my lists lately that are new to family research procedures and have asked me for assistance. I think it would help all of us if we reviewed the proper way to post a query and what the elements are. 1. A good subject line should be specific to the query. example: SURNAME date/timespan location General subject lines like searching for my ancestors, etc., are likely to be looked over and deleted. After all, these are genealogy lists, and we are all looking for our ancestors, etc. 2. In the message box, state the name(s) of the person(s), any dates or approximate dates and locations and the type of info you are seeking. This concerns posting of basic queries. Be sure to use CAPITAL letters for SURNAMES only and of course for other proper nouns, etc. Using all upper case (Capital letters ) in the message is considered shouting and is difficult to read, and is not proper "netiquette". Using all lower case is also difficult to read and should be avoided. If you have sight problems, there should be a way to choose a larger font for using or a magnifier for using when reading posts. 3. Please make your queries as complete as possible. If you have several names, then send more than one query and separate them as you can, so your posts will not be so long. Some folks have limits on post size. Here is a sample of a good post: I am seeking information concerning Jane Louise BROWN b. 1825 in Green County, ST (state). I am looking for marriage information for her in the range of 1841 - 1845. Can some one direct me to a source of marriage records for the period and in this county? Here you have a name, date, and location. And there is a specific request. Not just requesting any info about one surname in a general or unknown area. If you have any more suggestions, please feel free to share with me. I hope to include these soon on a web site for each surname list and county list I manage. Jennifer Braswell list manager --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. 1. Samuel R. Barnes of Nelson Co., KY., died in Rodney, MS in 1839, left a son Edwin F. Barnes
    2. Larry Barnes
    3. Seeking any descendants or further information regarding Samuel R. Barnes, born in Nelson County, Kentucky about 1799-1810. One unconfirmed source states he was born there in 1813. He may have married Mary Kendall in Nelson County, but he had a first cousin who was also named Samuel Barnes. Samuel's parents were Elijah Barnes and Rachel Willcocks also of Nelson County. Elijah was the son of James Barnes who died in Nelson County in 1795. When Elijah Barnes died in 1845, he listed Edwin F. Barnes in his Will as his grandson. Edwin F. is thought to be the son of Samuel R. Barnes. At this time I do not know if Edwin stayed in Nelson County, Kentucky. Information recently revealed states Samuel R. Barnes died in Rodney, Mississippi in May of 1839. Ancestry of Edwin F. Barnes; James Barnes, d. 1795 Elijah Barnes, d. 1845 Samuel R. Barnes, d. 1839 Edwin F.
