    1. Barnes line
    2. Am interested in knowing where my Barnes line hailed from. There are a lot of Barnes' that came from northeastern US - Connecticut, New York - but mine were from Tennessee area. My Great grandfather was Emmitt Dennis Barnes who married Sarah Jacobs (I have a lot on her line) and Emmit's father was William E. Barnes, born probably around 1820 (just a guess) who married Elizabeth Wells. All seem to be from Tennessee - Coffee County and surrounding areas. Any leads will be appreciated. Thanks, Cissy Jordan

    1. Samuel R. Barnes of Nelson Co., KY., died in Rodney, MS in 1839, left a son Edwin F. Barnes
    2. Larry Barnes
    3. Seeking any further information regarding Samuel R. Barnes, born in Nelson County, Kentucky about 1799-1810. One unconfirmed source states he was born there in 1813. He may have married a woman with the last name Norris in Nelson County. Samuel's parents were Elijah Barnes and Rachel Willcocks also of Nelson County. Elijah was the son of James Barnes who died in Nelson County in 1795. When Elijah Barnes died in 1845, he listed Edwin F. Barnes in his Will as his grandson. Edwin F. is thought to be the son of Samuel R. Barnes. At this time I do not know if Edwin stayed in Nelson County, Kentucky. Information recently revealed states Samuel R. Barnes died in Rodney, Mississippi in May of 1839. Ancestry of Edwin F. Barnes; James Barnes, d. 1795 Elijah Barnes, d. 1845 Samuel R. Barnes, d. 1839 Edwin F. 1. Margaret Barnes
    2. Hi Gena, Well you know I thought that she was from PA because she was married in Wilkes-Barre, PA But that doesn't mean anything, quite often we see people just 'picking up' and completely moving out of the state. Like John and Margaret stayed in PA ten years, and came all the way out here to Illinois. There were also other Barnes that have been involved with my family going all the way back to Zachary Wade in Maryland (1641) This could be a brick wall in trying to find her. I sincerely hope not!! I will keep searching and not give up. Brenda

    1. [BARNES] Thank You Loretta B
    2. Denise Prince
    3. Loretta: I don't recall if I ever thanked you for the information you sent me from the 1930 Census. As a result of that info I found a post on the Barnes site that listed the twins, Roscoe and Escoe. I have since been in contact with a daughter in law of Roscoe - - the wife of one of my dad's cousins! I also learned that I had the wrong spelling for my grandmother's middle name. The long and short of it is that your tidbit of information was helpful. One never knows what information may be found on in the posts! 1. Samuel R. Barnes, b. Nelson Co., KY., d.1839 in MS.
    2. Larry Barnes
    3. I am seeking any information regarding Samuel R. Barnes who was born in Nelson County, KY in the early 1800's. He was likely married to Nancy Foushee, Mary Kendall or Sally Norris in Nelson County. Unfortunately, the Samuels listed in these marriage records did not use middle names. I suspect in other cases he chose to use his middle initial to distinguish himself from the other Samuel Barneses in the area. Samuel's parents were Elijah Barnes and Rachel Willcocks who settled in Nelson County and were married there in 1798. Samuel R. Barnes died in MS in May 1839 and left a son Edwin F. Barnes. An Edwin F. Barnes married Nancy Norris in Nelson County, KY in Oct. 1845. I believe this is likely the Edwin I'm looking for. In the 1860 Census, Nelson Co., Dist. 2, New Haven, I find Edwin F. Barnes, age 33, farmer, wife Nancy, age 31, children; Sarah Ann, 12, Gilford Dudley, age 11, Lane Thomas, age 8, Nancy Ellen, Edwin, and Mary Elizabeth. Their next door neighbors are Phillip Norris, age 39, Maria his wife, and their children. Phillip might be a brother to Nancy Norris Barnes? __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
