    3. A Barnes cousin recently participated in the Barnes Family DNA project. We had a perfect match with James Barnes' descendents That's the James of Maryland who was Keturah's husband. But we have a gap. The two oldest ancestors that we've identified were a William and a Frederick Barnes who we first find in Logan County/Warren County, KY about 1790. Appearing later with these Barnes were a Charles, James, and Buck Barnes. These two guys are definitely related to James of Maryland - or perhaps a brother. Based upon census records the two were born in the 1760s. Do any of the James/Ketura Barnes descendents have a Frederick and/or William who left Maryland/PA for parts unknown in the 1790s? 3. Hi I hesitate to chime in, nmany others may well know more than I do. My prime source is the 'Barnes Gnealogies" by George N. Barners of Conneaut, Ohio copywright 1903 Many of the families he covers lived in various Ohio communities, I am not a student of Ohio geography, I'm not sure where Conneaut, Ashstabula, or Scio Ohio are located. Others were in Erie. Pa, Many passed thru from Connecticut to New York, Ohio and on west to Oregon etc. I can give a digest of the genealogy of my direct line, who went elsewhee, and some of the people included in the above travels, but I have no where near the details he gives in the book. You may know that there were several original colonial Barnes families. This book covers mainly the Thomas of Hartford, Ct line. George mentions a few of the Thomas of New Haven desendants, who also lived in Ohio. Your names could fit in either family, and probably are partly in both, or even additional lines. I know Fred Barnes of California has a recently published genealogy on the Hartford group, and I think he used George's material in part. If you want to check my known family I can send genealogy reports by e=mail attachments. 1. re: Immigrant James Barnes and possible connections
    2. I have no direct info regarding the parentage, etc. of James Barnes (m. Keturah Shipley) but was intrigued by references to Barnesville, Ohio. In 1850, Zachariah Barnes (Adam, John, Adam, James), age "60" was living with Thomas N. Hayes in Warren Township, Belmont Co., OH (Bemont Co. dwelling 289, fam. 295). In 1860, Zachariah was listed as age 72, and was still living with Thomas N. Hayes. [I read Thomas' middle initial as "H" not "N".] There is nothing to say why Zachariah was in Barnesville. As far as I know, his siblings and cousins all remained in Maryland excepting the two sisters who married into the Driver family (my line) who went to Erie County, Ohio and Allen County, IN.

    3. Does anyone have the (missing) connecting family section for this quandary? James BARNES, who was m. Keturah SHIPLEY., James, immigrated to this country from Essex County, England in 1676, settling in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Information has it that James father was named Richard. William BARNES of England was the father of son's David, Richard and William BARNES who immigrated to this county from England in 1758. In this country the three brothers: David purchased property and settled close to the above James and family (Anne Arundel and Baltimore County, Maryland, later Frederick which became Washington County, Maryland). Richard settled first in Pennsylvania, and then moved close to his brother David, who was established as above with the other BARNES', brother William settled in New York. 3. My Dent and Beall lines had first-cousin marriages for more than 150 years, so there are many instances of the pattern you describe. It was their descendant who married the Barnes in my family tree. James Whitten (or Whiting) Beall married Martha F. Barnes, daughter of John S. Barnes and Martha Cannon. I have often wondered if John S. Barnes was related to these Dents and Bealls. He lived in Yalobusha Co., MS, and Cass Co., TX, and descendants lived in Austin Co. and Tarrant Co., TX. I've been searching for the origin of this Barnes family for more than ten years. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Branches & Lil' Twigs" <epaurora@visuallink.com> To: <BARNES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, August 14, 2004 2:32 PM Subject: [BARNES] family members inter-married > Hello everyone: > > Please forgive my intrusion. This cousin goes back SEVEN times to the Immigrant ancestor. So over a more than three hundred year period, there were numerous cousin [not necessarily first cousin] marriages in my cousin's line. 2. Regarding the 6th GGrands...I have come across a number of 1st cousin marriages. Also, it was not unusual for a widow or widower to marry the brother/sister of their dead spouse. Therefore, the second group of children were cousins to the first group of children, but they shared the same mother or father. My mother's first cousin, who is still living, married her first cousin (now deceased). Lynell Kirk Nelson AGenFool (BARNES, ROBINSON, SLYE, FREEMAN, OLIVER, ARNELL, MERTON, CECIL, GRAVES)

    3. Fran, IMHO I don't think that it would be unlikely. People use to tend to stay in one place as families. And if they did move on, many times the whole family went. In the small mid-western town where I grew up, I was related to many, many people because of the family thing. And on my father's side of my family, I have situation similar to yours in my FORT family. ~Leslie Kohler~ ***Remembering 9/11*** ---------- From: "Branches & Lil' Twigs" <epaurora@visuallink.com > I wonder if I could get your help and/or your opinion...how likely do you feel it would be to find that 2 of your 6th great-grandfathers were brothers?
