There's not much that can be done about the problem. The spam you are getting that appears to be coming from people on the is NOT really coming from people on the list. The worms going around get into susceptible email programs that some people use and raid the address book; then the worm is sent on, appearing to come from its victims and sent to people in the victim's address book. Other spammers go into any place where lots of email addresses are visible and collect them. Rootsweb actually does a very nice job intercepting and deleting virtually all spam that is sent to the individual lists. So, bottom line, use your delete button ... and do NOT click on attachments and begin to be leery of attached photos from people you don't know or obviously sent by spammers. They (the should-be-shot spammers) are about to have the ability to infect photographs (according to a recent article in the NY Times) ... they already can provide you with URLs to Web sites that once there will infect your computer. Now, let's NOT get into ANY discussion of spam, viruses or worms. This is a genealogy list and should be used only for genealogy. If you wish to respond on this topic to me, your List Owner, do so to my email address: jebarlow@uiuc.edu or jimibar@insightbb.com (don't hit reply ... or if you do, change the TO: line from the list to me.)
