I am searching for the parents and family of Ava Barlow. She married John Wallace Pitman in Sumter Co., GA on June 20, 1837. They had the following children. John b ca 1839 Mary b ca 1841 Thomas W b ca 1843/44 James Elbert b Mar 15, 1844 William H b ca 1848 Jane E b ca 1851 Joseph L (or S) b ca 1853 Samuel b ca 1857 *It is believed that John Wallace Pitman is the son of Elbert Pitman and Nancy Council Pitman. There is no will, but much circumstantial evidence. Around 1840 the family moved to Sumter Co. Others believed to be children of Elbert and Nancy Pitman were Sarah, Elbert, William Bluford,Joel Sheppard, Charles, and Nancy M. John Pitman appears on the 1840, 1850, and 1860 Sumter Co., Census. They are living near other Pittmans-Joel, Sion, and Jesse. John & Ava And Joel and his family later moved to Ouachita Co., AR. In the 1850 census John is listed and 35 years old and Ava is age 36. Living with them is Elbert Pittman age 39 and Charles Pittman age 16. In 1860 also listed in the household are twins Isaac N. King and Louisa N. King age 6 born in FL. These same twins were shown in living in the home of William Bluford Pittman. There is a discrepancy in the ages shown however. They are lists as age 3 in 1850 and 6 in 1860. Should have been 16. I would truly appreciate any help in finding the family of Ava Barlow. I have looked at the Barlow Family website, but did not find a reference to Ava there. Any help much appreciated. Fran
