    1. Barlow of Robeson Co NC

    3. I am currently working on putting together a better genealogy of the Barlows found in Robeson Co NC. I received DNA results for that family, and they are a complete new major group of Barlows. From the research and notes I have gathered, I feel sure this family came here in the mid 1700's as a part of the Ulster migration from the lowlands of Scotland. Most of those families came as indentured servants, and arrived in Philadelphia PA, and as their debts were paid, they began migrating to NC. (I have a record, the 'Indenture of BRANSON BARLOW Robeson County January Term 1800 Book 1 page 161' to Arthur Dubois and Samuel Meeker of PA, which I believe shows his debt paid, thus, he probably arrived 7-10 years earlier, and is just being released from that debt. He didn't hang around NC, he soon migrated to Alabama. He was probably a relative of William Barlow who received land in Bladen Co (later Robeson) NC in 1765. Thus far, from what I have gathered, I feel confident that those Barlows found in Conecuh and Monroe Co Alabama are of Scot-Irish ancestry, as well as Branson family in Clark Co Alabama. In looking thru lineages here on the Barlow website, I have come to believe that William and Dicey (Conecuh and Monroe Co AL), and Elias and Jane Barlow (Conecuh Co Alabama) may be sons of John Barlow, who in turn is the son of the original William Barlow in Robeson Co NC) Those genealogies that have shown my Barlows of Mississippi are a part of this family, have now been proven completely wrong, there seems to be no relationship, based on the 25 marker DNA test. Any comments?.
