    3. I have almost completed the Germanna pages, and realized the only thing I have on Aaron Barlow and Sarah Kilcrease is from an ancestry CD which I am told is bad information. So...tonite I spent the night searching up census records, I can't go back further than their children..but perhaps I can bring us forward to somewhat present times. If any of you have information for this family that you'd care to share, I'd be happy to have it...preferably with some kind of documentation. I have found Elizabeth married Origin Sibley, traced her, .... I found Mary married Benjamin F. Rowland, traced her to Kentucky ... Julia married William Charles Dennis, haven't found anything on them yet, traced Thaddeus, Uriah, and Robert Z. in Baldwin and Mobile Co Alabama, Druscilla, married Jacob Hatter...I think she died young, but found a couple of her children. I may have some records in the stuff left by Ralph...will have to retrack that too. Jim, Vernon, Imo, Lillie, and Edna...your pages have all been redone. Lillie, yours is included with Vernons ...with you getting the credit for it. You'll have to get access to them from the Germanna index..all others are gone! http://www.barlowgenealogy.com/Germanna/index.html Compiled Vernons 80 pages into 2... Jim your's is now 1 instead of 6... Imo...all your family is on 1 page, perhaps you can find em' all now. If you find broken or missing links, let me know. I may not have completed the indexing as yet. I believe Freedman and Coppage skidded off of the road in looking at this for the following reasons. 1. Lewis Carlton is listed as a brother-in-law. 2. There is a daughter named "Elizabeth Jane" Barlow. Why on earth would you try to extrapolate that it was two daughters named "Elizabeth" and "Jane"? Why would you not think that she was named after a mother "Elizabeth Jane" after finding both names mentioned as Thomas' wife? 3. I have buckets full of ancestors that did not use their own name but were known generally by a pet name that their husband gave them early on. My own first name is Francis but there thousands of people (including all of my family) that have only known me as "Jim". 4. Thomas Barlow's wife signed with an "X". She would have no idea what name the lawyer had written on the paper. He may have never heard the name Elizabeth used. I think that listing a "Jane" as the second wife or indeed the only wife and excluding Elizabeth as some have tried is pretty much of a reach... It is hard to exclude her when a Carlton is listed as a brother-in-law to Thomas. I just like to keep pointing this out as the (IMHO) weak "Jane" theory is so often accepted just because it was published. Books are full of errors... BTW, My ggg-grandmother Nancy Gosnell (who married Jesse Barlow) had a brother Benjamin. The Gosnell's and the Barlow's migrated together and married back and forth a number of times. especially in Thomas Barlows' children. Another note: The origin of this line is generally unknown but I would like to point out that Milton Barlow (of the William Henry Harrison Barlow line) said in the History Of Kentucky that his family were originally French Huguenots... And one last thing, The Barlow Clearinghouse is a great well ran site and my personal disagreement with some contributed information is in no way meant to reflect on it in any negative manner. Subject: Gen Barlow & Red Cross Eric Reinhert eric.a.reinert@hq02.usace.army.mil My name is Eric Reinert and I am the Curator of the U.S. Amry Corps of Engineers, Office of History. I am researching the Red Cross Headquarters building in Washington, DC, as the Corps was involved in its construction. The building was originally constructed as a memorial to the woment of the Civil War. There is a story that Gen Barlow was the impetus behind the idea of a memoral to women, since he lost his first wife. The story follows that his wish was carried out by a Captain James Scrymser (presumably of his Civil War command, but not confirmed.) Can this role of Gen. Barlow be confirmed (or denied?) Any assistance would be appreciated! 1. Jesse Barlow, son of Thomas
    2. Hi Barlows: About everyplace I have ever looked including the Barlow web site lists my ggg- grandfather (Jesse Barlow) along with his siblings. They mostly list information on his siblings but I never see anything but just his name listed and the line stops there. He was the son of the Thomas Barlow that died in Nicholas County Kentucky in 1808. I list Thomas as born in Albemarle County VA in 1734. Since I never see anything about Jesse I thought I would post his family group sheet here. Just maybe it might connect to some others. I descend from his son Jesse Maurice Barlow. I do not know yet where the first Jesse Barlow is buried but all of his sons came to this same area of Central Indiana (Rush and Decatur Counties. I am in Shelby Co. which borders both). His wife's brother (Benjamin Gosnell) is buried not too far from me so it is possible that he is buried here as well. I seem to remember an old family story though of him being returned to Harrison County KY to be buried. Jesse M. Barlow is buried not far from me and I try to tend his grave a couple of times a year. I hope this may be of help to someone. ############################################################## Family Group Record for Jesse BARLOW ================================================================================ Husband: Jesse BARLOW ================================================================================ AKA: Born: Abt 1779 - Lynchburg VA Christened: Died: After 1863 Buried: Father: Thomas BARLOW (1734-1808) Mother: Elizabeth Jane CARLTON (Bef 1750-Abt 1810) Married: 26 APR 1802 Place: Pittsylvania Co. 3. It's time to update the Germanna Barlow's. If you have new information for your family pages on the website, or would like to have your Germanna Barlow family added, please send them to me at: sbarlowholmes@classicnet.net. What I would like now is a descendancy chart of all Barlows, Parlers, Barlers, etc.. in this lineage to use as my index. See John of Fairfield, if you would like to know what I am talking about... http://www.barlowgenealogy.com/FairfieldFamilies/index.html Each family that has information will be linked from that chart.. Jim, Ima, Vern, any of you have one? Edson takes care of most of those, but I doubt he has one for the Germanna Colonies. Edson, if you do, that would be wonderful. We know you do wonderful work.
