Still looking for the birth family of: Mary Jane Barlow b. Oct. 15, 1855 somewhere in England. Thank You Margaret
By now, all the members of the family do know, I hope that DNA testing has proven this family is a part of the Isle of Wight, Virginia Barlow families. Also..we have had at least 3 new persons apply for DNA testing, though at this time, I am not sure which families they are representing, if any. Dear Everyone: "LANCASHIRE WILL SEARCH" http://www.xmission.com/~nelsonb/lws.htm I saw a note regarding this website on another list today and had a look. Running the surname Barlow through the search engine brought up a lot of hits. The links provided are to LDS film numbers, helpful to those of us who do not live close to the source; however, it might be of help to those of you who are in or near Lancashire and want to find IF and WHERE a Barlow will exists. The site is apparently still in the testing stage - but seems to work well. It has come to my attention that several of you might not know that you have FREE access to all census images online ... and much faster and better service than Ancestry. Heritage Quest is free if you have a library card at almost any library. Check with your library, and if you don't have a library card and pin number, they'll give you one. You can use it at home on your computer, you don't have to go to the library. They have from 1790 to 1930..not all are indexed...in that case, instead of the search feature, you have to use the browse feature, you can usually find an index online at some rootsweb database. It is wonderful. You have to go in thru your libraries URL .. so again, check at your local library. You can all search your families in only a few days. They also have several genealogy books online at Heritage, I haven't used that feature a lot, but it is neat. It is all images and very slow searching, but I have found some unusual stuff there, most books are from genealogist, or wanna be genealogists who have written family books. I've seen an Aron or Aaron listed as one of Adam Barler/Barlow's boys, like Enoch. Hey, all of you Germanna Barlow families...how was it ever determined for sure that Aaron Barlow of Baldwin and Mobile Co Alabama was a member of the Germanna branch of the Barlows...and that he was not related to Branson Barlow, in the same areas of Alabama in the 1810-1820 records. They only split in 1830, when Aaron remained in Baldwin, and Branson went to Clarke Co Alabama. I have never even questioned this fact, until I have begun my own research on these families.... Can anyone give me documentation? My thoughts exactly Kathy..why did these folks not follow their own naming practices? In the same cities, these folks named their children for neighbors, and family folks instead of for their own family. Please note: there is also a Wilson Barlow in the line of Kentucky Barlows who lived in Paris (Bourbon County) don't know right off hand his exact date of birth/death but his death has been within the last 20 years. He has descendents still living in Paris. Sorry if this is an off the wall comment but I have not been following this Barlow part of the discussion but still had to toss my 2 cents in! Why are there so many Barlows with the same names living in so many places? I just love trying to unravel my line with grandfather, grandson, cousin, uncle and so on with the same first names! Sorry to intrude if I did! Kathy
Recently found Wilson Barlow living in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida in the 1910 census, with his daughter Clara and son in law James Womble. Does anyone know what happen to him after that? Thanks, Judy
