    3. I have been looking for the birth/baptism certificate for Robert Barlow supposedly born 18 Feb 1813 Margate, Kent, England for many years now. His father would have been either William or John. Can anyone help or make any suggestions? Gayle Mann in Manitoba, Canada

    2. I have seen that page, but if you will check the dates you will see that unless Thomas and Elizabeth/Jane were divorced that this couldn't be the correct family line. Because she was married to John Kerbey before 1768. Do you have any thoughts on this? Jan ---- Indiana Robinson wrote: Have you seen this page? http://www.barlowgenealogy.com/BOB/ThomasII.html This is my line through the Jesse barlow listed as a son of Thomas and Elizabeth/Jane. His son, my gg-grandfather, was also Jesse Barlow (Jesse Maurice Barlow) and you can see that one of Thomas' daughter (Lucy) named a son Jesse Barlow Sadler. My grandmother also had a brother Jesse Barlow. One of Thomas' daughters (Elizabeth) married Benjamin Gosnell. I also noted the name John Lewis. Thomas barlow had a brother-in-law named Lewis Carlton. Also Thomas' son Jesse named a son Lewis Barlow. Many named children after friends and neighbors. Maybe no connection but a lot of surnames became given names or middle names just like Jesse Barlow Sadler etc. Good luck. -- Francis J. 1. Re: Barlow Family Documents
    2. List- I have been trying to put my Barlow family together with any on this forum and I am hoping maybe transcription of these documents may help. If any of you can help I would appreciate it! I have spelled the words just as the writer of the documents did. North Carolina Orange County September 28th, 1793 Addressed on the back side to: Mrs. Jane Kurbey in Barcley County Sleppy Creek in Virginia Dear and loving Mother we gladly Embrace this opertunity to let you know that we are in good helth at present only Jessey hath had a bard turn of Ilness but is now reovring blessed be God for all his merces to us I did intend to have Come to a sen you before now and to have brought you all to this part of the Contrey but I understood that you would not Com with me but if Thomas Johnston went you intended to com with him but would not com with me I have sent by the bearer Thomas Jhonston a cap to my Mother and Cotton to my Sisters Elizabeth and Reback to make each of them a pair of gloves Dear Mother this is the seventh letter we have sent to you and never received any ansre from you yet and if you do not com out now we shurely expect answer or this will be the last that we intent to send to you for we shall think that you do not think worth your while to write to us and we thought that you had as good an opertunity to write to us by John Barlow as you had to write to Thomas ! Johnston Dear Mother we would be very glad you would send us word if you can conserning sister Jeney how she is and like wise Brother Jessey so we conclud at present and all the children joins in love to you all Bangmen and Sarah Barlow There is also the following receipt: November 26th, 17?? I promce to pay or caus to be paid unto John Miller or his assigns the jus and full sum of fifty bushels of marchena b le Wheat on or before the siscleenth of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty five it being for value recived as witness John Kirby John Lewis her Elisebeth X Kerby mark As you can see we have Bangmen's mother using two different first names. I also can't find out what Benjamin's father's name is. I have concluded that Bangmen was born circa 1760: A. Because living next door to Bangmen's son Jesse on the 1850 censusof Gallatin County, Illinois is (I don't have the copy in front of me) either Elizabeth or Rebecca Kirby aged 82 born in Virginia. I have concluded, maybe incorrectly, that this is one of the girls mentioned in Bangmen's letter to his mother in 1793. B. If the above is correct then that would have made Bangmen's father already dead prior to 1768 and we don't know how much earlier. It is also possible that Bangmen could have been from Louden County, VA because: A. There is a letter from Humphrey Keys dated May 11, 1780 as follows: These ar to certifie to the nabers on Sleeppy Crick. Where the Bearors John Kurby and his wife ar going to live. that they liv'd within about two miles of me about seven years and that I naver know'd nor heard any thing of them. But what was honnest and I do raly beleve them to be Inoffensive good nabers. B. There is a letter from John Kerby to his brother dated Nov. 16th, 1778 from Loudoun County Verginia as follows: Brother, I have this oppertunity to inform you that I and my family are in health I hope that you and yours may enjoy the same blessing. I should be extreamly glad and obliged if you would send me of the Bearer Robert Mills one half of the money that is coming to me of brother Michael's Estate and his receipt shall be a discharge for the value he receives. If you can possibly comply with my request it will be great help to me and the favour will be gratefully acknowledged by your Affectionate Brother his John X Kerby mark Loudoun County Verginia Nov 16th, 1778 Bangeman was in Berkely County in 1790 because he is listed on the tax roll, at least I think it is him! I do know after Orange County that I have found my 4th great grandfather Jesse Barlow in Montgomery County, TN. in 1820 and then they moved here to Gallatin County, Illinois before 1830. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I descend as follows: Unknown Barlow/Jane/Elisabeth Bangamen and Sarah Barlow Jesse and Mary Morrison Barlow Sarah Ann Barlow and Benjamin Barlow Thomas Jefferson and Margaret Capeheart Barlow Sarah Mariah Barlow and William Smith Lula Mae Smith and Edward McCabe James F. 1. Re: [BARLOW] Re: Jesse Barlow married Mary Morrison
    2. The record I have does not show a sister Mary Elizabeth. There is a Mary E.that is a daughter of my Benjamin and Sarah Ann (sister of James Morrison Barlow) but I show she married a Harris. It is possible that he died and then she married an Arnold. Mary must have been a popular name in this particular line of Barlow's since there are several named that. James Morrison Barlow's mother was Mary Morrison. I have a backup disk for my family tree program. What I was wondering was if I had communicated with you since I received a whole group of Barlow original documents or letters from the 1700's? If I haven't and you would like copies I will send them to you. This family is driving me nuts! I can't put them with any known Barlow family. As far as the names go the Isle of Wight family is the closest but the dates just aren't quite right. 1. I am almost sure from the 1793 letter that I have that our Jesse Barlow's(born abt. 1789) father was Benjamin or Bangeman (born circa 1760 or before) as he spelled it and his mother was Sarah. The letter is address to his mother and thank God I got the original because it is one of the fold up kind and her name and address, Jane Kerbey of Sleepy Crick, Berkley County, VA is on the the back side. 2. The letter mentions a brother Jesse and a sister Jeney. 3. It mentions all the children which I assume means Bengeman and Sarah's children. 4. It reams mother out for not answering the letters he had sent previously and says he wants her to come that part of the county but he understands she won't come with him and he mentions a Thomas Johnston that she will come with. I wonder could Thomas be a son-in-law? 5. Bengeman addresses the letter from Orange County, North Caroline. 6. He also mentions sisters Elizabeth and Reback (Kerbey). The 1850 census of Gallatin County, IL had (and I don't have it here at work with me so I am trying to remember which and can't) one of these two sisters living next door to Jesse with several other Barlow women. She lists her age as 82 and that she was born in VA. This would have made her be born about 1768. ( will be more specific after I get home and look at the census) 7. Since some of the original documents I have show that Jane would have already been married to John Kerbey by the time Elizabeth or Reback were born I am assuming their name was Kerbey. But to cause me even more problems I descend from Barlow's on both sides because Sarah Ann Barlow (James M's. sister) married a Benjamin Barlow who is the son of Thomas. I have speculated that possibly Thomas and the first Bangeman were brothers or Thomas could have been a nephew the son of the Jesse that Bangeman mentions in his letter. You see why it is driving me crazy? I was hoping Susan would get busy on this line and find out where they fit in, but alas not! I tried to get a male Barlow relative to give DNA, but he said he couldn't afford it! Oh well, maybe later. Do you have any suggestions? Jan ---- CPSuzyP@aol.com wrote: I think that might be me..
