    3. A recent DNA test for a known George of Sandwich relationship, turns out to be a close match to the John Barlow of Fairfield Connecticut, if Edson is absolutely certain in that Samuel Nye Barlow is a descendant of George of Sandwich. Out of a 37 marker test, 35 match to John of Fairfield. Bad news though is that our forum on Barlow Genealogy has been hacked, and the entire database lost. I am working on getting it back up and running, but will have to require users to register to hopefully prevent further hacking. 3. Can anyone help Sue with her query? I am researching John Robert Barlow that can be found in the 1850 aand 1860 census in Allen, KY, the son of James J Barlow and Parmelia Hollis. If I have my info correct, this John Robert is the same J R Barlow that is in the 1900 census in Fisher county, TX. My Barlow ancester briefly lived in Fisher and I have reason to believe he is buried in the same Roby cemetery, and am trying to make some family connection, but I think it may have just been a coincidence they were both in Roby at the same time. 3. Hi Susan, >We have found a donor for the DNA test for the James Barlow family..........and are waiting for the results to see if they match those of John of Fairfield, as is hoped.< If they do match those of John of Fairfield we will certainly know that the James Barlow family is related to the Israel Barlow family as well since a candidate from the Israel Barlow family has already been tested and his results are on the Sorensen database. His markers clearly show the relationship between his family and that of John of Fairfield. The differences are only on the genetic markers for which Sorensen don't test but which FTDNA do. John of Fairfield & Israel Barlow match on 27/28 markers. >We still won't know if he is a match to Edmund of Malden or George of Sandwich, because we still do not have test results to compare him to.< It depends how much actual paper trail exists between the Israel Barlow family and the Edmund of Malden family. The Gedcom file I have seen on the IGI clearly traces Israel Barlow back through Edmund of Malden to Francis of Turton, Lancashire. Can the Israel Barlow Foundation provide the evidence properly linking back all the way to Edmund of Malden? or even further back to Francis of Turton? If so we are part way there because the probable Lancashire origin ties in with several other strands of this "Fairfield" family. The most important of these to date being the Barlow family with identifiable origins in Ainsworth, Lancashire since this family displays what is believed to be the "ancestral haplotype" (ie in theory the closest genetic signature to the Most Recent Common Ancestor for the whole group of "Fairfield" Barlow families. The significance of this I believe is shown by the fact that Ainsworth, Turton and the home of my own ancestors, Radcliffe, are all within close proximity of each other in Lancashire, England, as can be seen (hopefully) from this link to a map.http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=375000&Y=415000&w idth=500&height=300&gride=&gridn=&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=freegaz&addr1=&addr2 =&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&local=&localinfosel=&kw=&inmap=&table=&ovtype=&zm=1&s cale=200000 1. Firstly find Bolton. Move north almost to the edge of the map and you will see Turton Bottoms (Turton being the ancestral home supposedly of Edmund or Malden's ancestor Francis of Turton...whose family are later supposed to be in Little Bolton before moving to the USA. Little Bolton is now part of Bolton itself). 2. From Bolton move East about 3 miles and you will reach Ainsworth (ancestral home of the "Fairfield" ancestral haplotype!). 3. From Ainsworth move South East about 3 miles to Radcliffe (ancestral home of my own earliest ancestor proven by DNA to be related to the Barlow family of Ainsworth). I believe it is this small triangle of Lancashire which holds the key to the origin of the Barlows within the "Fairfield" group of families. The James Barlow family currently being DNA tested are also meant to hail from the Manchester area and so hopefully the results will shed further light on these theories. Regards, John Eckersley. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Susan BARLOW Holmes" <sbarlowholmes@classicnet.net> To: <BARLOW-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, November 22, 2005 3:55 AM Subject: Oswald Barlow, son of James Barlow and Ann Crompton. > It was recently brought to my attention that Oswald Barlow was adopted > by James Barlow, his real father's named 'Fogg', I believe. > > > We have found a donor for the DNA test for the James Barlow family > however, a descendant of one of the true sons of James Barlow and Ann > Crompton, and are waiting patiently for the results to see if they match > those of John of Fairfield, as is hoped. 3. Further information, when I asked if she had a price on the sampler, she sent the following: I am a collector of VA samplers and when I first purchased the sampler, I thought it was wrought when Emma lived at Kalorama, in D.C., but later found out it was probably made in PA. I am not a dealer but have spent a reasonable amount working on this sampler. My goal is to place it back in the family at this time. Let's just check first to see if anyone is interested and go from there. Thanks again!!

    3. Concerning the following Fairfield Ct family: Thomas Paine Barlow, youngest child of Aaron and Rebecca "Sanford" Barlow, was born in Redding, Connecticut, 1794, died September, 1859. He was educated and adopted by his uncle, Joel Barlow, the poet, and accompanied him to France as his private secretary. He was with him on the fatal journey to Wilna. After the death of his uncle, he returned to the United States and established himself in the practice of law at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. While in France he met and married, July 28, 1817 at "Draviel", near Versailles, Frances Anica Preble, daughter of Henry and Frances "Wright" Preble, and granddaughter of Brigadier General Jedediah Preble, of Falmouth - Portland, Maine. "Draviel" was the beautiful country seat of Daniel Parker, an American gentleman and Henry Preble's intimate friend. I have just received the following letter and thought to pass it on in case someone might be interested. I have recently acquired a sampler wrought by Frances Emma Barlow, 1827. It is a fairly simple one but in nice condition. Because of all the research done, I thought someone in the Barlow family might be interested. This is the daughter of Anica and Thomas Barlow. Let me know. Thanks! Contact: witsends@aol.com if you are interested in this sampler. Susan
