This was sent to me a couple of weeks ago, might be of interest to some of you. Today I am writing because of an interesting find on a Hebrew/Bible/language website. It seems that there is an Aramaic word "bar" which can translate to mean either 'field' or 'son.' It may be a wild goose chase or a long shot, but it would be interesting to find out whether this is a coincidence or if there is any connection. It may only be that there is a linguistic connection from a parent language, or who knows, anyway I thought It might be Interesting. I am pasting the webpage in case you are intriqued. You will find the reference near the bottom of the page, The line begins with "But, there is always a but..." http://www.ancient-hebrew.org/emagazine/013.doc. Looking for Barlow's, all variants and spellings of the name, including Parler, Barler, Barlage, Barlo, Barlowe, Barloe, etc...from anywhere in the world. http://www.barlowgenealogy.com -----Original Message----- From: sbarlowholmes@linhost202.mesa1.secureserver.net [mailto:sbarlowholmes@linhost202.mesa1.secureserver.net] Sent: Tuesday, December 06, 2005 2:15 PM To: sbarlowholmes@classicnet.net Subject: origins of Barlow name & Aramaic My name is Matthew Barlow. Susan, please put me back in the system Carolyn Barlow Glaze _cdonut8@aol.com_ (mailto:cdonut8@aol.com) My Barlow's are from Mississippi. The earliest relative is James B. Barlow and wife Sarah Biggs. We find them in Marshall co., Ms. in 1850 They were from North Carolina. Unfortunately that is the furtherest confirmed residence that I have found. Thanks for all the hard work that you do. I truely enjoy reading about other families. I am still trying to get my uncle(LLoyd Barlow) to take the DNA test for us. If he doesn't soon, I am going to ask one of my brothers to do it. It is a shame us ladies can't get it done. Thanks, Carolyn
Researching Isley Barlow that was born 19 Feb. 1795 and died 14 Feb. 1847. She married Silas Bullock he was born in 1784 and died 12 Oct. 1854 in Covington MS. As far as I can find Isley was the daughter of John Barlow and his first wife could have been Sarah. Would love to hear from anyone on this family. Thanks Gail Brown gbrown@hiwaay.net http://www.rootsweb.com/~alneags/index.html
A 12 marker test received a day or so ago shows that the family of Thomas Barlow and Lucinda Hargis of Orange Co North Carolina - McNairy and Hardin Co Tennessee, Pontotoc Co Mississippi, and Cooke Co Texas, are a part of our Lancashire England / Fairfield Connecticut Barlow families. http://www.barlowgenealogy.com/Families/ThomasBarlow-LucyHargis/vickiroa ch.html I'm sorry you all if my forum is still not working for you. My son in Louisiana is suppose to be working on it for me, as I do not know the computer language, PHP, which it is written in...but he apparently has not had time to get it all fixed. The hacker made a real mess. Guess I got a bit over-zealous in reporting to you all that it was fixed... Try to log in in another week or so and see if it is working then. Looking for a Fred Barlow, married an Elizabeth/Lizzie Lytle (she was from Wisconsin). He was a jeweler from NY perhaps. I noted a Frederick Barlow, jewelery, from a town in Michigan....could this be the same Fred Barlow. They may have had a daughter named Maude. Do not know if Maude lived to adulthood or now. Thank you very much Jeanne in Montana (related to the Lytles) norsky@mtintouch.net ====== Dear Madam, My name is Alex Woodside. My great, great, great, great grandfather was Obed Barlow born ca. 1733. He was married more than once, first to Hannah Hammond and lastly to Rebecca Churchill, who was my 4x grandmother. Our family records agree with those of Edson Barlow, regarding Obed's children with one exception. Rebecca + Obed had four daughters and one boy. The boy was named Enoch, who died when he was only 14yrs old. The girls were Hannah, Sarah, Rebecca and "Ruth", who is the one not listed in Edson's chart. Ruth was my 3x grandmother. She like her two sisters married a man named Norton. Ruth Married John Norton at Easton, New York. Sarah married Benjamin Norton and Hannah married Richard Norton. Not only do our family records give us this information, but the information is further verified by Dr. Charles Banks in his 'History of Martha's Vineyard' Vol. 3, p.341-382, which describes the Norton family in much detail. All three Norton brothers and their families moved to Allegeny County, New York in the 1830's. I have two questions to ask you. Would you like me to submit more information to you regarding the Norton's and Barlow's? Secondly, can you tell me anything about Rebecca Churchill? For instance ... something about her parents or her birthdate, etc,... I have some clues, but I would like to hear what you have to say on the subject. Any information you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Yours Sincerely, Alex Woodside aura.woodside@sympatico.ca ========== Also..curious... The Barlow Forum...I appreciate all of your e-mails wanting to be re-activated, but I can't reactivate you til you register.. Please go to: http://www.barlowgenealogy.com/forum/index.php At the top of the page, click on the button that says 'register' and fill out that form..I can then activate you. Then you can post your family information or queries into the forum. If you have questions, e-mail me directly at sbarlowholmes@classicnet.net Do not click 'reply' to this e-mail, as it goes through the Barlow mailing list at Rootsweb and is sent to the entire list.
