Does anyone know anything about John Barker (1732-86), who served as a private, 1777, in Capt. David Wheeler's company, Col. John Brown's regiment of MA militia. He was born in Newport, Rhode Island and died in Woodstock, VT. I am interested in his genealogy. I am thinking that this might possibly be an ancestor of my James Barker of Caledonia Co. VT who was born about 1797. He could have been a grandfather. Family lore says my James family was from Rhode Island. Just looking for a needle in a haystack. Someone joined the DAR under his and other names. Where can I locate those records?
