My barker was a John too, but apparently there were a lot of them around at the turn to the 19th century. My John came from Bradford (I believe if family stories are to be true), and he and his wife Elizabeth moved to Leeds probably after the christening of their first child, Mary. That was recorded in the Bradford records for 1786, and the next child to John and Mary was baptised in Leeds. The researcher failed to let me have the names of those further siblings, so now I am still at that point in my life line, the same point of five years ago. I have had great difficulty in accessing any records of the Yorkshire, especially Bradford and Leeds, area through the online system. You either have to go to the records office personally, or pay enormous amounts of money over the internet, which I am reluctant to do. So therefore I am left with the only alternative, and that is to close the books on the Barkers. Maureen, Never give up.....someone new may be on the list the next time you post. I try to post about everyother month. I have found a few great leads that have me going back on one line to 1125. So, keep at it girl. I too have brick wall with my Barkers. Someone gave me a false lead once and I was really excited but then when it came to proof, it was not there. I wish you luck with your John Barker. My brick wall is with Elias Barker b. 1825 IN.
