I think I may have finally found my Amanda Barker! I have been searching for Amanda Barker born Dec 25, 1856, married to William E. Roddey. They were my gg-grandparents. I had been searching in the Falls County area, since both their children are buried there. But I have found my Roddey family in the 1860 Huntsville, Walker Co, Tx Census. William was 10 then. In searching more, I found also in Huntsville, the William Barker family....wife Alitia, children Henry 21, Thomas 16, John 13, Jane 12, Joseph 10, Cicero 7, Charles 5, AMANDA 3, and Aletha 5 mos. Since my Roddey family is also in this area, I am very tempted to believe this 3 yr old Amanda is my gg-grandmother. Can anyone tell me if they know for sure whether this Amanda may NOT be mine? If they know she married someone other than William Roddey? In 1870 my Roddey (spelled RHODY) family is living near James and Nancy Barker and their children in Walker County. In 1880 my RODDEY family was living in Falls County, Texas. William was still living with his parents and brothers & sisters. Amanda was in Walker County (age 22) with her mother. William and my Amanda married after June 1880. Two children: Garrett G. RODDEY born Dec 1882, and Willie E. RODDEY born 1888. Amanda died in 1891, and William remarried and the family is living in Brazoria County in 1900. >From my mother's aunt, who was daughter of Willie, and granddaughter of Amanda, and has a bible passed down from Amanda to Willie: inside page shows "Amanda Roddey died Jan 28, 1891, age 34 yrs, 1 mo, 3 days". My great-aunt did not know her grandmother Amanda, but knew OF her. From what my great-aunt told me, Willie's mother died and the father remarried. Willie did not get along with her stepmother, so was sent to live with an aunt and uncle in Dodge, Walker County, TX. When Willie married James EAKIN, they were married in Dodge, Tx by her uncle J. W. Whitaker. Now, I don't know how he is uncle of Willie.....maybe her mother's sister's husband, or father's sister's husband, or what. But if she lived with family in Walker County, I am inclined to believe her mother was from there. So maybe this Amanda BARKER was daughter of William BARKER and Alitia Humble. If anyone can help prove or disprove this, please let me know. Thanks Pat --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Finance - Get real-time stock quotes
