Sooo many Barkers and none of them seem to be related. My John Barker and Henry Barker just 'pop up' in the Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky area about 1787. While I suspect they came from Virginia, I have been unable to prove anything. As a last resort, I recently submitted DNA. Just learned there is no match to any on file. If any Barkers out there are contemplating submitting their DNA, and wants a comparison, mine is now on file. Bob Barker

Hi Some months back some one mentioned that all Barker in the USA should have their DNA tested to see who is related to who. At the time I thought it was a joke but I now see this is not the case. Even though I am not an American Barker I am interested how the DNA testing works. How and who tests the DNA and who checks keeps the DNA database. I have inquired with several labs to bid on DNA tests to determine if myself and a probable forth cousin shared a common ancestor. Both of us are males and we believe that we are descendant from a common grandmother 3 generations back. I was told in each case that the only way that DNA can be used to determine the relationship is that the samples must come from two female donors that are descendants of a common female ancestor in a succession of female descendants. in other words a mother to daughter to grand daughter etc etc. No male DNA can be in the line of succession and that applies to both sides. Then, if you can find two qualified female donors one from each family that are daughters of daughters of daughters of the common female ancestor they can determine the relationship. Now, after finding all this out and locating two female donors I got some bids for the test. The cheapest of three bids was $8000.00 US. Sooo needless to say I dropped that idea. It is possible that the labs I contacted were wrong but it would seem to me that if three independent labs gave the same information then they are all most likely correct. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Clive Barker" <clivebarker@seychelles.sc> To: <BARKER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 09, 2002 9:05 AM Subject: Re: [BARKER] Barker DNA > Hi > > Some months back some one mentioned that all Barker in the USA should have > their DNA tested to see who is related to who.
