Searching for any information on a JAMES BARKER who immigrated to the US in about 1636 from SUFFOLK, ENGLAND. Apparently he settled in HENRICO COUNTY, VA in about 1636. We have a long line of information about Capt. John Barker, who brought a ship here in October, 1635. Are you perhaps looking for that line? We have 571 people in our family tree going back to 1701 but are baffled by the recent discovery of 2 letters dated 1893 from RC Barker of Marengo Iowa addressed to his cousins in the UK. In his letter RC refers to his uncle also to George and Dick, and later to Will Barker all of whom it appears are fairly local to Marengo. My guess is he and probably the others in the family emigrated to the US from Sawdon in North Yorkshire UK around 1885. We didn't know anyone from that part of the family had gone to the US but it might explain the lack of gravestones in the local village churchyard! In his letters RC refers to his cousin Annie, and it was in the papers of my great aunt Annie that we found his letters. So we have one link. I have been looking for years for my ggfather James w. Barker from England. I don't know when or anything about him other than he came from England.
