    1. [BARKER] English General Barkers
    2. Mary Strovink Daukas
    3. Hi Sue, Thanks for your response, I do appreciate your time. You are correct, that LDS search did reveal my Joshua Paul Gustavus Barker who married Hannah Mary Kent. Thanks for taking the time to research that for me. I am sending you what little I have on the General Barkers I have located. Between the years 1860 & 1934, our USA Barker ancestors discussed their cousin, a General Barker in England , who had fought in one of the Boer Wars. Using those dates as a rough guideline here are the General Barkers I have located; my guess would be Major General Sir George Barker K.C.B., of Salt Hill near Chichester: Born 1894: ************************************************************* http://www.kcl.ac.uk/lhcma/locreg/BARKER5.html King's College London Liddell Hart Centre for Military Archives Survey of the Papers of Senior UK Defence Personnel, 1900-1975 Name BARKER, Sir George (1849-1930), Major General Major General Sir George Barker K.C.B., of Salt Hill near Chichester: Sir George was the father of General Sir Evelyn Hugh Barker. 1. Re: [BARKER] John Barker, Shropshire, England
    2. Ruth, I am also searching this line. As you already may have seen, Burke's Peerage (p.523) records a John Barker of Haughmond, Salop (Shropshire) marriage to Elizabeth Hill from the line of "Hill of Court of Hill." It is my understanding that he is an ancestor of the original James Barker of Newport, RI via descendancy: Edward Barker, Rowland Barker, to James Barker who died in transit to RI aboard HMS Mary and John in 1634. I suspect we share an interest in John Barker's pedigree with a large number of the members of the Barker list.

    3. Hi Valerie Thanks for the information. I think that I have found my Albert Barker. I would much appreciate it if when I get his birth cert if you would be so kind as to check it out on the 1901 census. His fathers name was George and so far I think his mothers name was Mary. Albert was born in 1883 and is registered at Staines Middlesex. Until I receive his birth cert from England I dont have any further information. By the way I live in Australia. 1. [BARKER] To BARKERS in England
    2. Mary Strovink Daukas
    3. To all the BARKERS in England. I am sending this message in hopes you might recognize some of information about my Barker family from England. I am trying to locate what I can in NYC, but my ancestor William BARKER worked in the Brooklyn Navy Yard about 1830 at which time no vital records were mandated by law. William might have been a ships architect or joiner. It is quite a challenge to find him. Anyway, the following is what I have been given by family legend and pension papers of Joshua P Barker. If any of it rings a bell with you, please let me know. Thanks for your time. Mary Unknown number of BARKER brothers arrived in NYC from England c 1830. At least one brother may have jumped ship. This allegedly "blue blooded" English family were mariners who had noble relatives including a General BARKER, believed to have been in one of the Boer Wars . A painting by a family member c 1830 depicting their old English homestead shows a thatched roof and a sailor in uniform. We have been told the depicted home is similar to the homes in southern England. A large very old tree is in front of the house. The sailor appears to have walked to the house down a lane which might indicate he lived close to where his ship was moored. The sailor is being greeted by a woman, 3 daughters and a son. The immigrant BARKER brother that we know is my ancestor, William H Barker of ENG married to Elizabeth Stewart of IRE. Son Joshua born 1830 in NYC later lived in Boston, MA. We would like to find the English Barkers and the other brothers who we believe did not settle in New England ( unconfirmed ).

    3. Hi Maureen, I'm looking for my G/father Albert Barker who was born in either 1883 or 1884. He lived in Cranford Middlesex but although I have his marriage and his burial I havent been able to find his birth. I dont know for sure as to where he was actually born. By the way I live in Australia so we're practically neighbours. 3. I have Elias Barker who married his first cousin Rachel Barker July 15, 1816 in Estell County, Kentucky. Elias was son of Elias Sr. who was married to Mary Fitzgerald in Madison County, Kentucky. Rachel was daughter of James Barker and Margaret Noland. Elias and Rachel migrated to Lafayette County, Missouri with Rachel's parents. Elias and Rachel's children were John and Henry Barker. Elias and Rachel separated some time after 1850 and Rachel moved to California, without Elias in 1852. I believe that Elias remarried and left Missouri about the same time. Is it possable your Elias is the same Elias as mine and America is his second wife?
