    2. I hereby declare this James Barker Day. And I might do it again! I spent almost the entire day looking for James S. Barker (I now think that is his middle initial). They were in Goshen Gore, Caledonia, VT. 1820 and 1830. I know they had a daughter born in NY about 1838 so I started looking in NY. In 1840 I found James S. Barker with two children under 5 and am pretty sure that is him. The other dates fit. The older children seem to be gone. Then I found in the same county -Cayuga - that there was James Barker in Springport and a James Barker at the Auburn prison. Image online was not available for either one so I started one at a time. No image # was available either. I found James Barker in prison for robber but he was too young, 22, and mine would be in his 30's. I have not found the James in Springport yet but will continue that search one page at a time later. I was so thrilled to think I had a relative in prison. Really disappointed!!! Anyway I did not want to waste my days work so wanted to share it. Maybe it is some other Barker's relative. Lucky them! Coral Barker Allbee

The only Barker's I could find in Perry county was Moses in the 1820 census. It listed as following Head of Household-----Barker, Moses---Page 149--- County--Perry----white males--under 10----one---26 to 44---one---White females----under 10---two--16 to 25---one I also found on the net at location INDIANA STATE LIBRARY GENEALOGY DIVISION "A-B" iNDIANA MARRAGES THROUGHT 1850 where Moses Barker married Crissy Willard in HARRISON COUNTY (one countys to the east of Perry) on April 8, 1813. Also a Henry Barker married Elizabeth Willard (Crissy sister) Jan 9, 1813. He voted on aug. 4, 1817 in Oil township, (perry county) then it looks like he move to 1840 he was in Knox county. I no idea where they were in the 1830 Acording to Indiana State Archives Moses Barker inlisted in June 7, 1832 for 30 days by Colonel Russell, he was in Capt. Henry Brenton's company of Mounted Rifelmen (40th Regt.)

    1. [BARKER] GEORGE BARKER-Rockingham Co, NC
    2. Gerald Eaton
    3. Hello from Orlando, FL. I guess I'll join the chorus of frustrated Barker researchers who've hit the proverbial brick wall. My apologies to those of you who've seen the same tired old info I've posted before, but here goes. My brick wall, GEORGE BARKER, d.o.b. unknown, parents unknown, married DENISA SHARP in Rockingham Co,NC on Dec.26, 1833. Surety was John B.Murray. Thats the one & only record I have for old George. DENISA BARKER (age 33) is listed with sons HENRY T (age 15) & JOHN A (age 6) on the 1850 Rockingham Co NC census. No sign of GEORGE BARKER, so I assume he had died. There are other BARKERS in the county, but can't connect to them. (There is even a GEORGE BARKER who md. in Rockingham Co. a month before my George!) And I can't find any connection with the GEORGE BARKER SR & JR from Caswell Co NC. GEORGE'S son JOHN ALLEN BARKER md. NANCY JANE McKILLOP in 1867 & moved to Jackson, Hancock Co, IN around 1870. From there, they moved to Laurel Co,KY in 1883. My grandfather CHAS.OLIVER BARKER (b.1873) had an older brother WM.HENRY BARKER (b.1867) & younger bros,. HAINES BARKER & ARTHUR BARKER. A relative told me that WM.HENRY BARKER drove his model T all over the Rockingham Co NC area & the route between there & LaurelCo,KY looking for his grandfather's roots. All to no avail. Sure would be nice to finish the job! The only clues I have are, that, since GEORGE BARKER didn't need a parent's permission to marry in Dec.1833, he must have been 21 or over. Thus born 1812 or earlier. And there is a tradition passed down in the family that JOHN ALLEN BARKER never knew his father, & was "bound out" to work with slaves on a local plantation. He served in the 45th NC Confederate Infantry & was released from Pt,.Lookout (MD) Prison camp on June 23 1865. Any connections, suggestions, leads, admontions, etc. would be welcomed. After Joseph died in 1868, this family moved and living in Illinois, Missouri and finally Delta County, Texas. If anything matches, write me at prop3wash@aol.com

    3. I would also guess that my Williiam H Barker was William Henry also. I feel sure he was born in Ballard Co, KY. His parents were Sterling Barker and Louann (Rotten). The family moved to Parker Co, TX bky 1860. Louann died inn 1860 of consumption (TB). Their daughter Lucindy Elizabeth married John H Cook in Miss Co, MO in 1855 who were my ancestors. I have been searching for the parents of Sterling and Louann for a long time with no luck. Sterling was born in NC in 1811 and Louann was born in TN in 1814. She was reported to be full blood Cherokee Indian. I dont think the U. S. census listed native americans on the census until after 1900. 3. From my research it appears there's a Northern branch and a Southern branch to the Barker lines. Those from the North East/Canada and migrated to the midwestern states and onto California or the West Coast, and those from Virginia went further South. It would be nice if they would all get on this list and help us find our brick walls... I have found most of my family that is still in Illinois are computer illiterate and want nothing to do with the "dang thing". That includes cousins who are in their thirties and forties... I can't imagine being without it. I found my husband's entire THOMAS line using the computer... and Thomas is a very common name, so it was difficult following a paper trail without the help of the computer, I'd still be searching I am sure. I'm just curious as to whether or not my John G. Barker was married to someone when he had three sons by Lucetta Lusk? And what his nationality is, I am assuming it's English. But there are also BARKERs among the Melungeons and its a curiosity to say the least.
