Maybe I missed it, but could someone tell me what geographical areas and time period the Barker book covers? I have Barkers, but there's no point in asking for a lookup if the book doesn't pertain to what I am looking for. Thanks. Hi Terry, Thank you for your generous offer to do a lookup in your Barker Book. Would you please see if any of the BARKERS came from IRE to NYC or BROOKLYN about 1830. Specifically I am looking for WILLIAM H BARKER b ENG about 1810 who married ELIZABETH STEWART b IRE abt 1810. Son JOSHUA Paul Gustavas BARKER was b 15 Aug 1830 in NYC, William was from a seafaring family and was in the USA with several unknown brothers after jumping from a ship to which he was indentured ( perhaps at a very young age ). So far I have been unable to locate the brothers. William also worked at the old Brooklyn Navy Yard. Family legend tells us about an English relative GENERAL BARKER who was a General and who served in one of the BOER WARS. Appreciate your help. Hi All, I have just found information on your web site that is wonderful news to me. Here is what I found on your Barker Family Web Site that is so exciting. I guess I should start here with your information. Barker Family of KY, Knox/Gibson County, IN & TX http://www.rootsweb.com/~scwhite/barker/barker-dk.html The following is taken from a family memoir, written by Wilson Hopkins Barker in October 1901, while staying at the home of his son, B.F. Barker, Hood County, TX. Donna Kaminsky] My father had another sister, name forgotten. She married Thomas Grishem in Kentucky and moved to Warrick County, Indiana in about 1836 or 7. They had a large family, mostly girls; names forgotten, except 3 boys, James, Thomas and David. Here is a Warrick Co. Court Case which was submitted to the Grissom GenForum, by Ron Hanks. Virginia and others interested, (Virginia is my cousin) Here is a transcript of the court record. There were a couple of words I had trouble figuring out marked with (?).I would be interested in opinions of the legal interpretation of this document. Thank You Ron Hanks ?State of Indiana Warrick County of The State of Indiana to the Sheriff of said County Greeting Where as James S. Grissom Nicholas Hanks Andrew J Barker David Grissom and Thomas Grissom at the October Term of the Warrick Circuit Court in the Year 1837 and on the fourth day of the term thereof came into open Court and acknowledged themselves to owe and be indebted unto the State of Indiana in the just and full sum of five hundred Dollars to be levied of the Goods & Chattels Lands & Tenements of them said James S Grissom Nicholas A Hanks Andrew J Barker David Grissom and Thomas Grissom or either of them should default and be made in the following condition which is that should the said James S Grissom be and appear before the Judges of the Warrick Circuit Court on the first day of the next April Term of said Warrick Circuit Court at the Courthouse in Boonville and shall thus and there answer unto the State of Indiana of a charge preferred against him at this term of the said Court by the Grand jury there of for an Assault & Battery with intent to Kill & Murder and abide the judgement of said Court there on and not depart the Court without leave. And afterwards to wit at the April Term of the Warrick Circuit Court in the Year 1838 and on the fourth day of the Term thereof at the Court House in Boonville in the County & State afd. before the Judges afd. on motion of the attorney Prosecuting the pleas of the State the said James S Grissom was then & there the time and place aforesaid three times called aloud but comes not but makes default and said Nicholas A Hanks Andrew J Barker David Grissom and Thomas Grissom was in manius(?) aforesaid and called at the time and place afd. and then and there directed to bring into Court the body of the said James S. Grissom and save their recognisance herein above recited which they failed to do. Mary Grissom and the Grissom boy's mentioned in, family memoir, written by Wilson Hopkins Barker in October 1901, appear to be the same family which moved to Pike Co. Indiana. Mary Grissom is on the Pike Co. 1850 Census, with her son's Lenord & Andrew. David Grissom is also on the same 1850 Pike Co. IN census as his William Grissom. James S. Grissom took off for Arkansas and is on the 1850 Census there. Thomas Grissom moved to Sangamon Co. IL and is on the 1840 Census there. This is the known children of who, it appears may be Mary Barker-Grissom/Grisham/Gresham. Mary Grissom's b: 1789 KY AGE 61 in 1850 Pike Co. IN Census. Married: Aprox 1808/1809 James S. Ind to NW AR around Berryville and Wareagle AR, he died there and the rest of the family moved to Bell Co. TX and later to Erath Co. TX. I have been searching for about 30 years for information on who Mary Grissom's maiden name was and who her husband was. I think I found it. Sincerely, Barbara McAdams-Turpin (Barbi T.)

Looking for the birth place and parents for HIRAM BARKER who died April 19, 1849, Pittston, Kennebec County, Maine. He married Phebe Pearl OAKLEY, November 27, 1833 in Willington, Tolland County, Connecticut. She was born in Connecticut, September 15, 1815 and died in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1894. They lived in Pittston, Maine and 8 children were born before he died. According to censuses Hiram Barker was born in Maine. From some family documents I suspect it may have been either Bath or Dresden, Maine or someplace in that area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
