Hi Coral, I forgot to respond to you when the both of us where looking for our James Barker and you thought yours might be in jail. Well while I was looking for my James Barker I was also looking for his son Alva R.. Barker. When I looked in the Colorado State Penal system. I got a hit on Alva R. Barker ( My Father) I thought Oh it couldn't be. He moved to So. Calif. in 1913 at the age of 5. and it is now 1925, But I sent away for his records and low and behold when his records, pictures ( front & side view with numbers hanging around his neck) and report cards. believe me I was shocked. It was my father, 15 years old. He spent 6 months in the Gray Bar Hotel. Maybe Ma Barker is a relative----Gary Barker CORALAA@aol.com wrote: > I hereby declare this James Barker Day. I too have a John G. Barker from New York. According to the records I found in the gggrandfather's Civil War pension records, John G. Barker was his father born in Niagara Co., New York and supposedly died in 1849, however information in the folder stated he died in 1850 in Lockport, N.Y., while still other information states he died in 1852. My John G. Barker fathered three sons by Lucetta Lusk - I found her on the 1850 Niagara County census records under the Lusk name but the boys are listed as Barker. One of the boys died shortly after birth in 1847 according to the pension files... his name was Roger. The other two boys are Charles R. Barker born 1846 and died 1915 in Chicago Illinois. My gggrandfather was Maurice/Morris L. Barker born 2-13-1845 in Newark, Wayne County, New York and died in the Old Soldiers and Sailors Home in Quincy, Illinois. Other researchers have concluded that Lucetta was John's mistress and that he had another family. Lucetta Lusk states her birth as being in Ireland between 1814 & 1824. Confusion in this research lies in that after Lucetta died in 1855 Morris states he went to live with his grandfather Stephen Dunwell. Yet no relationship can be found as to actually how the Dunwells were related. Morris lied often about his birthdate... He stated his mother died in 1855 when he was 7. Which would have made him born in 1847 or 1848. Since it was learned that he was only 14 or 15 when when he enlisted in the Union Army and for 4 years was stated as being 18 on attendance records... I'm inclined to believe he was born in 1848. A fellow reseacher in the BARKER lines, Norm Sechrest had some theories on this John G. Barker as being John Barker born 2/28/1774 in New Jersey and died in July of 1853. This John Barker was married to Mary Chamberlain. Unless someone has such a dysfunctional family history documented somewhere in a long lost diary, guess we will never know for sure which John G. Barker was the actual father of my kinsman. Does anyone know anything about Leonard Barker of Prince William County, Virginia? He was appointed one of the original Justices of the Peace for the county when it was formed in 1731. He received a land grant from Lord Halifax in 1730 for 399 acres. His wife was Lydia, the daughter of John and Jane Farrow. What was the relation between Leonard barker of Prince William County, Virginia, and Leonard Barker of Rockingham County, North Carolina? The latter served in the same company with Capt. Richard Vernon of Rockingham County during the Revolutionary War. Richard Vernon married Catherine Barker. They named their first child John Dagg Vernon. John Dagg was a resident of Prince William County, Virginia, and connected with the Barker family there. So, there is almost certain to be a connection between the two Leonard Barkers. T. I am researching Floyd Scaggs married Mary Barker, Elliott County, Ky. Their son Clarence Scaggs was born Elliott, (probable Mauk Ridge), Feb 14, 1908. He lived in Olive Hill and died July 26, 1988. Any information greatly appreciated. Thank You, Avonell
Sorry. It was late last night when I posted that message. I also should have mentioned: Charles Clifford CASE, b. June 6, 1887 in Hoaglin Twp, Van Wert County, Ohio Henry W. CASE, b. February 1863 in Ohio, m. Effie McMANAWAY September 18, 1886 in Van Wert County, Ohio. (Siblings: Matilda, Charles, Andrew, Sarah, Hannah, Sharlotta) Parents: L. and Laura CASE Effie L. McMANAWAY, b. December 1870 in Ohio. Was living with grandmother Elizabeth BARKER in 1880. Elizabeth BARKER then is found living in Michigan with Effie and Henry on 1900 and 1910 census. Elizabeth Jane BARKER (grandmother to Effie McMANAWAY), b. April 1830 in Pennsylvania. Mother to 10 children, two of which were Henry J. and George W. Living in Jackson, Shelby County, Ohio on 1880 Census with sons Henry and George, and granddaughter Effie. Again, I'm looking for any info regarding these individuals, or the J. CASE and Lizzie BARKER shown as the parents of Charles Clifford CASE. Would appreciate any assistance. Thanks! Heather
Hello! I was looking over some birth records the other day for the siblings of my g-grandfather, when I happened upon a surprise. His eldest brother showed different birth parents than the rest of the children in the family! The parents of Charles Clifford CASE are shown as J. CASE and Lizzie BARKER (while the parents of the rest of the children are shown as Henry W. CASE and Effie McMANAWAY). Who are J. CASE and Lizzie BARKER to Henry and Effie? What happened to J. and Lizzie that caused Henry and Effie to have to raise their son? Effie had a grandmother by the name of Elizabeth BARKER. Could this be the mother of Lizzie? Would appreciate any information anyone may have regarding any of these individuals. Thanks! Heather

Okay, everybody, the following is my Barker lineage and all that I know of them at this point. If any names, some of which are unusual, sound familiar or you think there is a connection, please let me know. I am currently waiting for Young and Sarah's marriage certificate, which will (hopefully) shed some light on their families. I have also left out those descendants (like me) who are still living. Hi Everyone, I'm so sorry to tell you that I received word that my address book was infected with a virus, and as a result so has yours because your address was in my address book. Kevin & I checked out our computers and found the bugger. The virus is called jdbgmgr.exe it can not be detected by Norton or McAfee anti-virus programs (which we have). It sits quietly for 14 days before damaging the system. It is sent automatically by messenger and by the address book, whether or not you send e-mails. Fortunately it is not difficult to delete it. To get rid of it: 1. Go to start, then Find or Search. 2. In Files/Folders, write the name jdbgmgr.exe 3. Be sure to search in your "C" drive 4. Click Find or search 5. The virus has a teddy bear logo with the name jdbgmgr.exe - DO NOT OPEN 6. RIGHT CLICK AND DELETE IT. 7. Go to the recycle bin and delete it there also. IF YOU FIND THE VIRUS YOU MUST CONTACT EVERYONE IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK. I found it in my computer so am passing this precautionary message on to all of you. Sorry, but it was very easy to get rid of.
