    3. Your are correct! On that census the wife's name is Mary. My family records show that her name was acually Mary Elizabeth Brown who was first married to Samuel Porterfield. Some records (such as marriage records of her children show Mary and others Elizabeth). It is all the same person in this case. Thanks for your interest! 3. I read your Barker message with interest! My James Barker's family was also in New York, Michigan, Illinois and Nebraska. The 1880 Clay County, Nebraska census shows at least 3 of his children born in Illinois and one born in 1877 in Nebraska. I have never been able to find them since that census. The census shows his age as 42 and his wife Mary is also 42. Their children are Alexander, Charles, Minnie, Anna, and Nathan. 2. Well I keep trying. You never know when someone new will show up and know something. I did find a James Barker in the 1840 and 1830 (I think) census and the information seemed to connect. I was hoping that maybe the birth of Rachael might show up there. That would help a lot. This James was born about 1797 and James Jr. was born about 1821. James Sr. wife was Mary born in New Hampshire. John G. was born 1824 and had a son named James b. around 1850 in Wisconsin. I need to get my notes out. I hate to guess at this stuff. If you want I can send you what I have. Do you have a fax? Coral

    3. My William Barker was born in Ohio in 1824, he was married in Decatur Co., Indiana 9 Sept 1847 to Lucinda Becraft. They moved to Iowa & at one time lived in Davis County, Iowa. From there to Scotland Co., MO. There were other Barkers in Scotland Co., MO but no indication they were relatives. Did you even wonder if we all had the same James Barker and he just moved around a lot and married lots of women. He married my gr grandmother when she was 18 and he was 38 (since he never gave his age the same twice, I am not sure but I do think now that he was born in 1821 in Vermont) so what was he doing before that? I have never found the divorce but I know she married another man before James died. Thanks again for sharing with me. Coral Barker Allbee in California where the wind is a blowing!!
