I am new to this site, Does anyone have any info on the Barkers of Wilkes CO, NC thanks so much Katherine
Info about Ma Barker went around some time ago. Her real name was given as Arizona Donnie Clark. If I'm not mistaken the History Channel or perhaps Biography has done a program on her.
Thanks for all the information! When I moved to Detroit people would ask are you kin to Ma Barker, I answered yes cause I thought they was refering to my grandma. Or they would say are you from Bloody Harlan? Well I knew I was from Harlan Co., Ky. so I answered yes. Did`nt know for quiet a many years what they was teasing about. My Barker family arose from the stone fields in Vermont late in 1700s. James Barker (census said he was born in VT) b. 1797ish. Sons: JamesJr. b. 1821, John 1824 William 1826 in Goshen Gore, Caledonia Co. Vt. and Rachael born 1838 in NY. They later show up in Iowa where James Jr. had been for several years. All of these were there in the 1860 census. After that I have no idea where the rest of the family went except for my gr grandfather James Barker who served in the Civil War and then settled in Omaha where he died in 1891. Coral Barker Allbee
