My life started in Long Beach, CA but I have lived in N. CA. for the last 33 years. Several years ago I bought a Book with all the Barkers in it and I found 183 Gary R. Barkers in it. Maureen, Never give up.....someone new may be on the list the next time you post. I try to post about everyother month. I have found a few great leads that have me going back on one line to 1125. So, keep at it girl. I too have brick wall with my Barkers. Someone gave me a false lead once and I was really excited but then when it came to proof, it was not there. I wish you luck with your John Barker. My brick wall is with Elias Barker b. 1825 IN. I am also still looking for Barkers who were from Bradford in the early part of the 1800s. I have been at my brick wall for about 5 years. If anybody can help me find the parents of Mary Barker, born 1786 at Bradford, I will be most happy. Would like to connect with cousins of this line: John G. Barker and Lucetta Lusk had three sons - it was thought that Lucetta was a mistress and that John G. was married at the time. John G. Barker was born in Newark, Niagara Co. New York - birth year unknown. He apparently died in about 1849 in Lockport, Niagara Co., NY. Lucetta Lusk was born in 1814 in Ireland and died in 1855 in Harland, Niagara Co. New York. She is listed as Lucetta Lusk on the 1850 census with two sons: Charles R. Barker born 1846 and died 1915 in Chicago Illinois. He worked for the Postal Service in Chicago at the time of his death. Maurice/Morris L. Barker born 2/13/1848 was born in Newark, Niagara Co., NY and died in 1921 in Quincy, Illinois. A third son was Roger Barker born 1847 and died at 8 months of age. Maurice Barker is my great grandfather. His mother Lucetta Lusk apparently married in 1851 to a man named Harold or Howard Rose. The two young boys went to live with Stephen Dunwell and his second wife Esther (first wife was Nancy). I believe this was a foster situation although there could have been some relationship involved. The reason I feel this was a foster situation is that Maurice mentioned that he and his brother lived in the barn. Maurice L. Barker is listed also a Morris Barker - reason? He lied about his age when he joined the Civil War. He was only 14 at the time and for 3 successive years on the roll was listed as being 18. He married Ella E. VanNorman on October 15, 1888 in St. Cloud Minnesota. She was born October of 1852 in Wisconsin and died in 1919 in Quincy Illinois. Children of Maurice and Ella Barker: Ray Coleman Barker born June 24, 1889 in St. Cloud Minnesota and died in Illinois??? This was my grandfather and I don't have much on him since my parents were divorced with I was a toddler. Roy(al) Maurice Barker born 12/26/1890 William S. Barker born 3/30/1893 Ray Coleman Barker married Edith Mary Thomas in Chicago Illinois. Children of Ray and Edith Barker: Elizabeth Jean Barker b. 1914, Ft. Wayne Indiana m. William H. Murphy, died in 1989 in Sarasota Florida. Robert Ray Barker b. 1917 Chicago, Il. m. 1st. to Lennetta R. Latham, died in 1985 in Chicago. Any fill in information is appreciated. Thanks, Leslie Thomas (nope not related to my grandmother's Thomases). "When you arise in the morning, give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength. In researching the Military records of another ancestor in my Hewitt line I ran across some English Military records for a Richard Barker who was a private in the 23rd Royal Welch Fusiliers on the March 18, 1767 muster rolls at Newcastle on the Tyne. He remains on their rolls from March 18, 1767 through July 29, 1771. He served in England and Scotland. I hope this is helpful to some one out there. There are no particulars about Richard Barker other that he is a private. --- [This E-mail scanned for viruses by Declude Virus]

Hi Joan, What kind of information are you looking for? Are you looking for a record before 1860 for his parentage? Or? Dear Joan, It would be helpful if you could get a copy of the actual 1880 census listing for your Lewis Barker, as that would show where HIS parents were born. It's possible that your Lewis traces back to the Wake Co., NC Barker families. There were two Lewis Barkers there in 1800--one was my husband's ancestor, Lewis Barker Sr. [son of Joel Barker] who left Wake Co. about 1805 and went to Tennessee. The other Lewis Barker was the son of William Barker, who died in Wake Co. in 1799, leaving in his will, 275 acres of land to his son, Lewis. In 1805 Lewis Barker Jr. was appointed guardian to Sally, Bartlett and Killingsworth Barker, orphans of William Barker. The relationship between the two Lewis Barkers has not been determined, but they were likely distant cousins, both descending from the Barker family of Surry Co., VA.
