In a history of Pike, AL compiled by Mrs. Farmer a number of years ago,the children of David Barfoot were listed as Miles, John, George, Elizabeth, Mary, David and Delilah. However, I am confident that Miles was not a son of David. The Barefoot info in Mrs. Farmer's book was provide by John P. Johnston. In a later letter from Mr. Johnston, he stated "No, I don't feel that Miles was the son of David. I did think so when I turned the Barefoot data over to Mrs. Farmer for her book,, but I feel sure now that he was not." The Miles Barefoot of Pike was earlier associated in Pulaski, GA with the older Miles (grandson of Noah Barefoot, Sr. of Johnston, NC) and William (prob.bro of older Miles). Miles of Pike married Eliza Broxton in Pulaski and lived there for a number of years near his in-laws. Neither David of Pike nor any of his siblings were ever in Pulaski, or at least they left no records there. From a study of! Pulaski records, we know that the older Miles had two sons and the older William had three sons. I am confident that the two sons of old Miles were my John and his brother Redding. That leaves the three sons of old William as William, Jr., Miles and Bythum. John and his father, old Miles, went to MS; Redding ended up in Jackson, FL; William, Jr. went to Smith, TX; Miles to Pike, AL; and Bythum stayed in Pulaski, GA next to his father, old William, at least until the mid 1840s.
