Dan- Glad to see you are still active in Barefoot research. In a history of Pike Co., AL compiled by Mrs. Farmer a number of years ago, the children of David Barefoot are listed as Miles, John, George, Elizabeth, Mary, David and Delilah. However, I am confident that Miles was not a son of David. The Barefoot information in Mrs. Farmer's book was provided by John P. Johnston. In a later letter from Mr. Johnston, he stated "No, I don't feel that Miles was the son of David. I did think so when I turned the Barefoot data over ot Mrs. Farmer for her book, but I feel sure now that he was not." Mr. Johnston suggested that Miles was connected in some way to the Barefoots of Pulaski, GA and I agree. The Miles of Pike, AL was earlier associated in Pulaski, GA with the older Miles (grandson of Noah Barefoot, Sr. of Johnston, NC) and William (prob. brother of older Miles). As you know, Miles of Pike married eliza Broxton in Pulaski and lived there for some time before his move to AL. Neither David of Pike nor any of his siblings were ever in Pulaski, or at least left no records there. From a study of Pulaski records we know that old Miles had two sons and old William had three sons. I am reasonably certain that the two sons of old Miles were my John and his brother Redding. That would leave the three sons of old William as William, Jr., Miles and Bythum. John went to MS as did his father, old Miles, Redding ended up in Jackson, FL, William, Jr. went to Smith, TX, Miles to Pike, AL and Bythum stayed in Pulaski, GA next to his father, at least as late at 1840. Also as you know, the name "Miles" only appears in the descendants of Noah Barefoot, Sr. who d. 1793 in Johnston, NC, and not in the William, James, David line of Bladen, NC and Pike, AL. Art Hall
Art - The death of Miles Barefoot who married Meady Allen is listed in the family Bible of James W. Cooksey. His death date is given as 15 March 1850. James W. Cooksey was a son of John and Zilpha Raburn Cooksey. Zilpha was the daughter of James and Mahulda "Huldy" Barefoot Raburn. Mahulda's death is listed in the same Bible as 24 September 1845. All these people were in the Newton County, Mississippi, area. I think that Mahulda may have been an aunt of Miles (died 1850). For ten years I have been trying to place Mahulda in one of the Barefoot families. She was born in 1765. I think she is probably a daughter of Noah of Johnson County, NC, but I have no proof. Does anyone out there have any information about Mahulda Barefoot Raburn??? As Susan's mother ( A GRUBBS married to a CLARK) was born in 1917, I am guessing Susan (Clark) Barefoot & sister Ellen Clark are abt. 60 Yrs old now! He grandfather was a BARKWILL from Cleveland & Detroit! I found a Susan Barefoot 60 listed in Detroit area, but no phone. A Charles Barefoot listed in Detroit 59 & likely husband! Is anyone connected to the Detroit area BAREFOOTs? Dick No, likely not the Charles Barefoot JR. of NC or SC that is the KKK leader & likely in jail at this time for big trouble!
