It does not appear that Mary and Wm. McLamb were married long enough to have any children. I expect most of the children listed in the 1870 census with James and Mary were his children by his first wife. James T. Tart's wife Avy Ann was a Barefoot, an older sister to Mary. She was a daughter of Noah and his first wife. John R. Barefoot was not the son of Noah, but his grandson he raised. His mother was Noah's daughter Clarkey who later married Wiley C. Jackson. John R. Barefoot married Nancy Green Jackson daughter of Eden Jackson. Noah's son John married Mary Young. Wiley T. Barefoot widow was named Mary. His heirs in the estate division of his mother Nancy were listed as George A. Barefoot, Coy T. Barefoot, Callie Barefoot, Rossie Barefoot Harvey Barefoot, and Sellie Barefoot. Are you saying that after Wiley T. died his brother Junius married the widow Mary.? Where is the cemetery you are talking about. I know that area ! well. I'd like to see it sometime. If we are talking about the same Wiley T. Barefoot, his son Harvey married my great aunt Myrtle Jackson. They are buried in Dunn. Dan

I have her marrying James Tart 1869. they 1870 census list them 8 children 2 to 16 yrs...like to see that....8 children in 1 yr. ...I am wondering if the children were were with Wm McLamb. the third youngest was Mary. she was my Ggrandmother. According to my Great uncle the five youngest children went to live James T Tart and Avle Tart due to the death of their parents. confusing info on how the were related to them . Here's the part of the family story i love.My ggrandmother Mary married Wiley T Barefoot 2/9/1888 son of John R Barefoot( son of Noah and Elizabeth) and Nancy G. thay had 7 children 1 dying not long after birth. Wiley died from what they beleived was hookworm. Wiley younger brother Junious then married Mary and they had two more chiildren .Mary jane Barefoot, and Wiley B. Barefoot. Mary jane was my grandmother . My great uncle Wiley B passed not long ago ! and left the Barefoot family farm to his only whole sisters children. Which is my family. the family home built by Wiley T and brother Junious is still standing and has all the family tresures in it. Also the family graveyard is there. It is located ouside Dunn, Nc. Hope this helps and thanks for letting ramble about this very large and confusing family....Cathy

I have been trying to verify all of Noah's children by his two wives (the first is unknown). Noah's estate records at NC Archives tell us that Mary was married first to Wm. J. McLamb. When she received her full share she was the wife of Wm. J. McLamb. This was in 1861. Later she is believed to be the wife of James Tart and is on the 1870 census with him. I have not found proof that this is the same Mary but others have suggested that it is. Can you help? Also, Noah was always known in the official records simply as Noah Barefoot, without any initial. The first Noah G. Barefoot to appear in the records of Johnston or Sampson Co. NC was the son of Miles and Meady (Allen) Barefoot. Noah and his first wife had 8 children: Bright Barefoot, Noah B. Barefoot, Roseanna Barefoot Denning, Clarkey Barefoot Jackson, Ava Ann Barefoot Tart, Sarah Barefoot Parker, John Barefoot, and Susan Barefoot Wood. Noah and Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Godwin) Barefoot also had 8 children: James Barefoot, Joel Barefoot, Nancy Barefoot Godwin, Barbara Barefoot Baggett, Mary Barefoot McLamb Tart, Jerusha Barefoot Jackson Tart, Reddin Barefoot, and Elizabeth Barefoot. All of these children were included in his estate distribution one way or another. Most people have not included his two oldest sons Bright and Noah B. Barefoot because they were not in the land distribution because their father had already given them land prior to his death. I hope to hear from you about Mary. Thanks. Dan

    3. Art - The death of Miles Barefoot who married Meady Allen is listed in the family Bible of James W. Cooksey. His death date is given as 15 March 1850. James W. Cooksey was a son of John and Zilpha Raburn Cooksey. Zilpha was the daughter of James and Mahulda "Huldy" Barefoot Raburn. Mahulda's death is listed in the same Bible as 24 September 1845. All these people were in the Newton County, Mississippi, area. I think that Mahulda may have been an aunt of Miles (died 1850). For ten years I have been trying to place Mahulda in one of the Barefoot families. She was born in 1765. I think she is probably a daughter of Noah of Johnson County, NC, but I have no proof. Does anyone out there have any information about Mahulda Barefoot Raburn??? Dorothy Crandall in Texas ----- Original Message ----- From: "Art Hall" <arthall@tvec.net> To: <BAREFOOT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, July 02, 2004 11:02 AM Subject: Miles Barefoot of Pike, AL : Dan- Glad to see you are still active in Barefoot research. : In a history of Pike Co., AL compiled by Mrs. Farmer a number of years ago, the children of David Barefoot are listed as Miles, John, George, Elizabeth, Mary, David and Delilah. However, I am confident that Miles was not a son of David. The Barefoot information in Mrs. Farmer's book was provided by John P. Johnston. In a later letter from Mr. Johnston, he stated "No, I don't feel that Miles was the son of David. I did think so when I turned the Barefoot data over ot Mrs. Farmer for her book, but I feel sure now that he was not." Mr. Johnston suggested that Miles was connected in some way to the Barefoots of Pulaski, GA and I agree. : The Miles of Pike, AL was earlier associated in Pulaski, GA with the older Miles (grandson of Noah Barefoot, Sr. of Johnston, NC) and William (prob. brother of older Miles). As you know, Miles of Pike married eliza Broxton in Pulaski and lived there for some time before his move to AL. Neither David of Pike nor any of his siblings were ever in Pulaski, or at least left no records there. : From a study of Pulaski records we know that old Miles had two sons and old William had three sons.
