I have found him in the 1790,1800 and 1810 census records for Wayne Co., NC then I believe he shows up in Monroe Co., Ala. in the 1830 census. My info says he left his wife who was named Peggy. He was born about 1823 and died on 1 Oct. 1885 in Wilson County, NC. He had a twin brother, Andrew Jackson Barefoot, who died on 17 Sept 1873 in Wilson County. I believe Rufus Bunyan Barefoot (1818-1870)was his older brother. Rufus named Margaret Barefoot as his mother (father not named) on his marriage license with Delpha Batts in 1868(his 2nd marriage). Other possible brothers are Guilford (1817- ), Farmer (1822-1862), and Dempsey (1833- ). I don't know at this time Margaret Barefoot's husband. I've documented George W. My gg grandmother was Clarky Barefoot b. abt 1812 and my g grandmother was Winnie Barefoot b. 1845 m. Silas West. I have the Barefoot Book called "The Barefoots from the South" by Sue Cannady who married into the family. She was assisted by Dan Jackson with this genealogy book and it is very well written and documented with over 500 pages. It cost $30 and they did a wonderful job. I have the book. What do you need help with specifically. I can look it for you sometimes. I have a Mary Barefoot in my database, but not a Mary Ann. Yes, there are a lot of Mary's too. Keziah Hayden, daughter of Stephen Hayden and Mary Ann Vick (b NC) was born 1840 in indiana via 1850 census. Mary Ann Vick is the daughter of Noah Barefoot Vick b 1793 in Johnston or Sampson co, NC. On 5-14-1816 he married in Guliford Co, NC to Sarah Sullivan. Noah Barefoot Vick's father was Nathan Vick, Jr and mother was Mary Barefoot. Nathan Jr b 1758 Duplin Co, NC, died 1826 Davidson Co, TN or Moore Co, NC. His father was Nathan Vick Sr and mother (unknown) Lee, daughter of Peter Lee, Sr. Mary Barefoot born 1760. i've read where her parents are Noah Barefoot, Sr (1721-1793) and mother was Isabella/Isabel Brantley. any help appreciated, i just started searching the Barefoot genealogy a few days ago. karen in Calif. Most likely your GW Barefoot was the son of David Barefoot of Columbus Co. NC. He married Armon Leader on 1 June 1845 in Barbour Co. AL. The 1860 Pike Co. AL census lists George W. Barefoot age 38, Armon age 30, Frances age 13, Franklin age 11, Marilda age 10, and David M. age 8. David Barefoot, father of GW was the son of James O. Barefoot of Columbus Co. NC. David was born about 1800 and married Rebecca, last name unknown. David is buried in the Mincey/Minshew Cemetery, Pike Co. AL. David's parents were James O. Barefoot and Delilah Mims. James O. was born about 1759 and died before the 1820 census. James O was the son of William Barefoot of Bladen, later Columbus Co., NC. William Barefoot came to Craven Co., SC from Lunenburg Co. VA with his father George Barefoot and wife Elizabeth about 1749. He was married to Amelia (probably) Joyner. William had brothers Noah and Newitt. The name Noah suggests that George was the son of Noah Barefoot of Surry Co. VA who died in 1711. Sue Cannady Barefoot of Clinton, NC has a wonderful book on the Barefoots of the South that has all this info with documentation. Hope his helps.
