Minnie Barefoot was my great grandmother. I haven't had any luck finding her or any family history. I know she and her husband died about 1906 and they had one son my grandfather William Henry Adkins born in 1895 30 miles from the Gulf on the reservation. At age 11 he went to live with an Uncle Bill/William but last name unsure either Adkins or Barefoot. There was another person looking for a Thomas Barefoot. If you google History of Minnie Barefoot you will see her posts. Hope I did not bother you but any help would be greatly appreciated Thank you Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. But after his parents death around 1906 he was sent to his father's brother Bill/William or could have been his mothers brother an Uncle Bill/William. I also don't know when his folks were born or how old they were when they died or why they died. My dad says grandpa always told him he was born 30 miles from the Gulf but records say he was born in New Mexico. Someone told me they were moved to Oklahoma so that may be where they finally settled. I have no last name for Uncle Bill/William. But my grandfathers SS# says it was obtained in Arkansas so that may have been where Uncle Bill lived. Grandpa was listed in the early Census as Cherokee, he was a shoe cobbler. I have a few photos of him and there are a few in the Adkins family tree here at Ancestry. Feel free to look if you like. I just have been so stressed trying to find all the info I need. I definitely need help lol Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Oh I would love it if there is a connection between our families. I wish I could have found your post earlier I just did a google search and found you. My great-grandmother was Minnie Barefoot (Bearfoot) not real sure on the spelling. Anyway, her father was a sub-chief of sorts and yes that made her a princess. My grandfather was born on the reservation about 30 miles from New Mexico and he was born in 1895. My father tells me that she married a white man who was the father of my grandfather and Minnie was his mother. They apparently died when my grandpa was 11 years old. He went to live with his father's uncle William. My grandpa's father's name he said was Charles or Charlie. My grandfather I believe left the reservation with Bert Bedford as they arrived in Indiana at the same time. My grandfathers name was William Henry Adkins. i sure would be interested in conversing with you on all of this as my grandpa didn't talk much about his family and I am unsure why. And my dad doesn't know hardly anytyhing either. My aunt told me about Minnie but name only. If you'd like you can email me directly at silverstar47512@yaho! o.com I would love to know as much as I can about my great grandmother and great great grandfather. They are the only ones standing in my way of completing my father's side. I look forward to talking with you on this. Any help at all would be crucial to solving this family mystery. (we are descendants of the Slicks) I'm not sure if this is repetitive, but here's what I have: Mary Slick (Polly) b. 1794 m. James Barefoot had son Job. Job m. Becky Wolfe had twin sons John Roy m. Nellie Blanche Thompson Children: Lois, Clyde, Roy, Bob (b. 1922) & James Ray m. Della ? (1890-1988) Children: Clarence (in Phoenix), Norma (m. ? Sarver), Lawrence (Sarasota), Eugene >From what I've read, it seems you all probably know all this and more. I have a photo of the log house where Mary "Polly" Barefoot lived. Also, in the background of a photo of my family headstone at the Friends Cemetery in Spring Meadow, the bottom part of the Barefoot headstone is visible. It reads: Wife of Dr. Benjamin Barefoot Grand-Daughter of George Ross, Signer of Declaration of Independence. Mother of James Barefoot, Pioneer Settler of Bedford Co. I'd be happy to send along the photo(s). Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. You said you were a cousin, but you didn't explain how in the note when you responded. Yes, my G grandmother, Winnie Barefoot, b. abt 1845, dau of Clarky Barefoot b. 1813. Clarky was the dau. of Noah Barefoot, b. 1793. I just wanted to know who you were and who your parents were. I have the Sue Cannady book, there are a lot of Mary's in the Barefoot family. I have a Mary E. Barefoot who was also a daughter of Clarky. Clarky had one son, and 3 daughters that we can prove. John R. m. Nancy Green, John's father was William Tart Mary E. m. Samuel Jacobs Winifred (Winnie) my g grandmother m. Silas West Faith or Faithy m. Jeremiah Langston The daughter's father was said to be Dennis Gainey sometimes called "Boy". I can't find him in the census at all. The son, John's father was white and the daughters father was Black. So they were considered Mulatto. Thanks for reading my post. Noah was a full blooded Seminole Indian who appeared from the swamps in Florida and married Tiercy Watford, obviously of English background. You would probably have better luck tracing Tiercy Watford's past, rather than Noah's. Your Great Grandparents are Modell and Dean Hinson who are the parents of your Grandmother Dorothy Dean "Hinson" Sprinkle. Hope this helps!!!! Carolina. There were several Johns around Wayne, and Johnston Co's. The one I am looking for left the area and went to live in Ala., Monroe Co. He left his wife in Wayne Co., NC, she is shown in the 1830 Wilson Co., census living with 3 children. Her name was Peggy. Two of the boys were probably GW and twin brother Andrew Jackson Barefoot. I don't believe they came from James Barefoot's line. The John I am looking for was descended from Jeptha Barefoot. The birthdates for these 2 George Barefoots are almost 10 years apart. The George Barefoot you are looking for most likely would have been a part of this Barefoot family somewhere although. I have your George Barefoot married to 2 Tomlinson sisters. You said that his father may have been John Barefoot. There is a John B. Barefoot that is the son of James O. Barefoot and Delilah Mims. I don't have any information about him other than he was born in 1790 and married to a Nancy Register. You might want to check into that family line and see what you can get. You may have to dig into North Carolina Genealogical Society records not found online to obtain some clear answers although. Keep in touch and if I get anything, i will surely let you know.
