The following is what has been provided to me by a cousin and his wife who have spent years trying to untangle the roots: Francois Jean was born in St. Vivien de Flores, Saintes, Saintonge, France in 1666. His parents were Pierre Barbeau and Madeleine Babin. Francois Jean came to Canada as a soldier in the company of Saint-Cirque. He was said to be 20 years old in 1686; he is mentionned May 12, 1686 at Pointe-aux-Trembles. He was buried April 1, 1714 at Montreal, but living at his death at Boucherville. He was said to be 50 years old. Francois Jean Barbeau's wife, Marie DeNoyan, remarried after the death of her husband to Daniel Tetu in 1717. This is the earliest information I have.
