I'm going to try one more time on my Barber ancestor. John Barber - b: 1834 in England John's father's name was probably also John. He had a brother named William (b: 1836), who married a woman named Harriet. According to some info, they all came to US around 1859. m: 1) Mercy Sarah Sayer in 1859 in Oceana Co., Mich. she died in 1860 John joined the Union Army during the Civil War, then moved to Texas after the war. m: 2) Catherine E. Wood May 23, 1868 in Bexar Co., TX (San Antonio) d: Aug. 17, 1890 in Bexar Co. TX John was killed by a train. Children: 1) John James Barber b: Nov. 15, 1869 in Bexar Co., TX m: Mattie Sylvester May 11, 1894 in Burneyville, OK d: Nov. 19, 1949 in Bexar Co., TX 2) William E. Barber b: Nov. 30, 1871 in Bexar Co., TX m: Mary Lou ? d: 1942 I know everybody in the Barber line has a "John" - so here's mine. Anybody with any info on any of these people - please contact me! By the way,I'm descended from the first child, John. (Of course.) Thanks, Brenda Morris JMORRISCPA@aol
Hi Brenda, Our Barbers were here earlier, but there could still be a connection. They were in TX in Caldwell Co, San Saba Co, etc, and Bexar is not that far away. There is also a good chance your John was related to Capt George Barber. There is a book about him and his descendants. I feel we may connect to him too, but no proof. If you have a good library with research center and genealogy section, go and have them help you find the book. You can't check it out but you can look at it there. It is called, simply: Captain George Barber. The author is a Barber also, but I can't remember his first name.
