    3. Jack, You and I have corresponded before about Barbers. Some of the facts on your Barbers seem to fit in with mine, and some don't. I have a gggrandfather (Frederick?) Littleton Barber, whose parents seem to have disappeared when he was young. His daughter made an entry into a family Bible that said "Priscilla Barber died 1826". We thought this was either Littleton's mother, grandmother, or possibly a baby sister. We are pretty sure Littleton had a sister named Mary, and we know what happened to her. But it seems that Littleton was on his own at an early age, or possibly living with a Thomas Street in Jefferson Co. GA. This Thomas Street was the half-brother of some Barbers- William, Holden, and George Wade, and Sarah and Mary. We think that Thomas Street's mother was a woman named Mary who was first married to a Street and then to either John or Joseph Barber. Littleton was born in 1821. He said on two or three censuses that both his parents were born in GA, but it could be that he was referring to whoever raised him as his "parents". We know that Thomas Holden Barber, the son of Holden, called Littleton his "cousin". We also know that people in that time were a lot more imprecise about their family relationships, and also that sometimes for various reasons other people wound up raising some of the many children people often had. Does any of this ring any bells with you? I know I'm grasping at straws, but after several years trying to find out something about who Littleton's parents were, we still don't know much. Thanks for any help you might be able to give. - Janet Davis ---------- > From: Jack Heine <JHeine7533@worldnet.att.net> > To: BARBER-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [BARBER-L] Barber, SC, NC, KY, Ill. > Date: Tuesday, August 01, 2000 6:15 PM > > This is in answer to CJ Miller, Robert Barber and Priscilla Lee, Moved from > SC to Lincoln County, NC around 1806, then moved to Pulaski County, Ky > around 1815, then moved to McDonough County, Ill. in the 1820s, Robert, > Priscilla and my ggg grandfather John D. and his wife Mary (Davis) all moved > to Ill. at the same time, also Nathaniel was with them. 3. Hi, I'll add my two-cents-worth...Janet Davis is my sister, by the way, and co-hunter of that dad-blamed, closed-mouthed, letter and document-destroying branch of the Barber family....Littleton Barber and his descendants!!! Maybe it's another Barber trait.(we've been told our crooked little fingers were "Barber"traits, too.) Anyway, like you, we're grasping at straws. Does ANYONE have a family story of an uncle or son who went missing, or got mad and moved away, or was orphaned and sent off to live with other relatives, or indentured and sent away?(...and that might fit in with the time frame of his being born in 1821.) There must have been something scandalous in some way because the Rev. David Patman who was a Methodist minister in Commerce, Ga. was angry that his daughter ran away to marry Littleton. (or maybe he was mad because they ran off) Littleton apparently had land and was a "master builder" and maybe an architect-builder. His son was, too. Anyone out there with a missing relative who was a builder? There is also a family story that we have Indian blood, which could very well be, looking at my grandfather's pictures. (and us) How many other Southern Barbers have that story? Someone once wrote about a group of Indians living in North Carolina who all took the name of Barber. Has anyone else heard the story? The names that run in the family: Littleton's children: Charles Theodore b.1851; W.L. ( don't know full name)b.1856; Dee (David?); Ed; Henry T. born 1865; Virginia b. 1853; Emma; Frances b. 1862; Mildred b.1867. His son C.T. added some interesting names that echo some that I have run across in other posts, namely Charles Wiley, Robert Reece and William Talmadge Barber.Does anyone have names that are similar in your Barbers? I know that these folks moved around...some went to California, some to New York and surrounding areas. Most came back to Georgia. Thanks for your time and patience.
