    2. Cindy Pettey
    3. Hello Everyone, I need some help.....boy, don't everyone... I don't know much about my John, but he was my GGG Grandfather. I have no parents or siblings for him. He married Matilda Dove on April 16, 1832 in Pittsylvania Co., VA. They headed west shortly after they were married, into Monroe Co., VA now WV, they had children there(according to their POB on marriage records). I didn't find them in the 1840 Monroe Co., VA Census???? John then received a land grant in 1849-50 for Braxton Co., VA now WV, so I presume they headed north from Monroe Co. VA(WV)(?) to Braxton Co., VA(WV). They were in the 1850 Braxton Co., VA(WV) Census, he was listed as 46 from VA, so he would have been born Ca. 1804. They resided in Braxton Co. and Clay Co. WV, until their deaths. There are also stories of Native American Ancestry in our family, too... If any one has any info or can help in any way, it will be appreciated. Thank You Cindy Eagle Pettey

    2. Janet/Paul Davis
    3. Ken, I've run into your William a few times in my research. My folks believe he was possibly related to our line. I can tell you a William whom we believe to be the same one married at the age of 14 or so in Bertie Co. NC a Nancy Griffin (I think that was her name) in the same year Fredrick Barber married Mary Bentley. Fredrick later came to Washington Co. and then to Houston and Pulaski. We believe William went to Clarke Co. which is possibly where the Griffins were from and later to Cobb. We think William and Fredrick were brothers, and we know Fredrick was the son of John Barber and Mary Street. Hope this helps. - Janet ---------- > From: Ken Daniell <daniellk@bellsouth.net> > To: BARBER-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [BARBER-L] Wilkes, Oglethorpe, Columbia Co .Ga. > Date: Sunday, January 30, 2000 12:51 PM > > I'd like to include my William Barber (b. 1789 North Carolina, d. 1876 Cobb > County, GA). 2. My suggestion is to include the photographer's name etc. If that had not been on come photocopy pictures we received throught the family, we might not have know that the photos were actually taken by a family member who had a studio. I think it could also help with the location of individuals we may be hunting. 1. [BARBER-L] Suggestions for Scanning Photos
    2. I'm just getting my new scanner warmed up. I have a number of photos/tintypes of some of my ancestors. I wanted to get some feedback from someone who has scanned photos, particularly the ones mounted on a photographer's card with the name and town of the photographer on the bottom. I was wondering if people are scanning just the photo, or also including the card, so you have the photographer's name and location. I like the photos without this info, but thought the information might be useful in some cases. Any thoughts to share on this?

    3. I don't know about Capt. John Barber in particular, but most titles of rank were from local militias. I have a pre-Revolutionary War ancestor on another line who appeared with the title of Capt. Although he owned several ships and crossed the Atlantic several times I know the title came from the militia and not the sea because the title later changed to Major then Colonel. 3. Linda, Its a possibility. Although a sea captain traveling to land locked Anson to have a farm and family seems unlikely. It could have just been an honorific also. Anyway, two Captain John Barbers within a hundred miles of each other,at about the same time, with about the same life spans, is sure driving me crazy! It seems too conincidental but I have run across some strange coincidences on other lines. Thanks to Kevin for posting on the John Barber of Tryon/Lincoln. Perhaps if we compare data between the two, we can sort them out. Is there any record of John Barber of Tryon/Lincoln serving in the legislature? Could someone post his family sheet? 2. David, I've seen your book at the library. I recommend it to people who are still searching. Lots of really good information. Have you come across a John Barber (another one) who lived in the area around present-day Savannah? He was there by 1738-40, so I am guessing he was born 1700-1710. I know that's not much to go on. 2. More info: The DAR's newest book, 1996, updates all the others. John Barber (married Mary Allen) is found on page 147. He is listed as PS, which means Personal Service. My oldest notes on him show he was in the NC Militia until 1776-77. Kevin's John Barber (married Sarah) is also listed on page 147. His rank is Captain. Anyone can get information by writing to the secretary and stating the name and page number. There is a small fee. Dan, I will look up those numbers for you next time I go to the library. I think they are the numbers of other applicants, who mention serving with Capt. John Barber in their application. They may have been updated also. There are lots of Allens in this registry. Rose
