I just realized that I have been deleting a lot of Barber research lines because of the subject line. Now I need to go back to the archives and see what I have missed. I just thought it was still the same topic. This message below is not my line, but it is well presented research which I almost missed because of the subject line. -----Original Message----- From: Carl E Rogers <cerogers@fdt.net> To: BARBER-L@rootsweb.com <BARBER-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Tuesday, February 01, 2000 9:45 AM Subject: Re: [BARBER-L] Shovel teeth >Descendants of Isaac J. I also have Barber's from England. My gmother - Ethel Allison (or Agnes)Barber b. 10-13-1894, d. 3-29-1935 in Boxford, Ma. Buried in Curtis-Killam cemetery. Ethel's father's name was Frederick from London, England. At time of her death she was married to Elson Killam. Any info. would be greatly appreciated. Marsha
Well, David, Ken told me he was pretty sure his William couldn't be the one who married Nancy Griffin, so I'm going to go back and look at what I had that made me think so again. I'll let you know if I still think they're the same one after reviewing it. ---------- > From: David W. My Barbers are also from England. The only ones I know about are Sarah Barber born about 1833 in Brampton Derbyshire and her daughter out of wedlock, Hannah Elizabeth Barber born in Chesterfield, Derbyshire in 1862. I have no idea who or where Sarah's family lived. She was enumerated as the only Barber in a household in Chesterfield in the 1851 census and found with her husband William Palmer, in Brightside Bierlow, Yorkshire in the 1881 census.
Hi Linda, In the 1900 census Matilda Barber, John's widow states that she had 9 children and 2 are living. In all the census I have for them 1850 - 1900 Braxton and Clay Co., VA now WV. I can only account for seven children. The only son that I have listed for John and Matilda Barber is a Thomas J. Barber and Thomas had a son named John Henry Barber. I believe they may have bound out some of the children for service, Louisa was not in the 1850 census but she showed up in the 1860 census at the age of 18. The other 2 children may have done the same and never come back to the family unit or may have died young. Sure wish I could find an 1840 census for John or maybe court records on his children. The girls names were Lucinda, Ruth R., Catherine, Martha Ann, Louisa and Ruth A. and a boy Thomas J.(Don't know what the J. is.) Thanks for responding... This is my line also....These notes below come from Jacki Barber she may be able to help you With William Frances.....Good Luck and let me know... ----- Original Message ----- From: JeanneGodwin <jeannegodwin@worldnet.att.net> To: <BARBER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 30, 2000 10:14 PM Subject: Re: [BARBER-L] Shovel teeth > Could you please pass along the name(s) of any book(s) about the Barber > family? > Thanks! I'm looking for info on the Barbers of FL. > > J. Godwin > > http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Lofts/5047/famtree/barber.html Oddly enough, in all my research so far, it is my own name that has given me so much trouble. Most of what little bit I know comes from "family lore", something somebody told someone sometime but no one can quite recall who, when, where or even why. I am a direct descendant of Moses Edward Barber, infamous cattle rustler and possibly murderer, though of course, most "relatives" I talk with claim him to be totally innocent. Sinner or saint (already got those on the Irish side!) he still is a fascinating character to be directly descended from. There are two sides to every story, as well as numerous versions, but these two excerpts from published books do well at summing up the general gist of the Barber - Mizell Feud. Jim Bob Tinsley's Florida Cow Hunter - Life and Times of Bone Mizell is written from the Mizell point of view, Ruth Barber Linton's "Excerpt from "Pine Castle: A walk Down Memory Lane" gives the Barber version. My lineage from Moses is as follows: Moses > Isaac > Henry > Warren > Harold > my father > me! I currently am activley researching these lines and hope to put the info up in a coherent format soon, until then you can see an on line Gedcom version of my Barber tree at Thomas Parker's site!
