Becky, 1) Frank Barber b.? in Pa. m. Anna Davis b.June 1872 in Pa. 2) William Robertson Barber b. 3 Jan 1897 in Plains Flat, Luzerne Co., Pa d. 20 Apr 1955 m#1 Jeanne Hubble 3 children m#2 Lillian Loretta Steele b.16 Dec 1911 d. 24 Aug 1949 4 children My husband is the baby of this family and she had 3 children by a first marriage, as well. They all use the name Barber too. The only deceased child is the oldest by Williams first marriage. We have asked and asked to no avail. Discovered Frank by finding Williams birth registration in the Luzerne Co. Court House in 1985. I have checked the 1900 census and Anna and William were living with her brother-in-law Robert Robertson. In the 1910 census William was living in a boarding house and working in the mines. The birth record is the only place I have found Frank and I have been looking for these 15 years last June. That is why I thought perhaps there was a Barber planting seeds all over the place. Seems like a lot of others are stumped as well. I would appreciate all and any help I could get. Shirley Barber

The furthest I can go back is a Lander Barber who, according to family stories, came from England. I have him on the payroll of George Rogers Clark at Fort Pitt in 1775. Then in Washington Co. Pa in 1783 and finally in Ky from 1790 thru 1830. His family and their decendents, thru the 1800's, lived in the NE 1/4 of Ky. I have a record of most of them. While he was in Washington Co., Pa there was also an Andrew Barber in the same precinct of that County. The Rev War records lists him as being from Va. I have been searching for him and his 1st wife and their ancestors for over 20 years. I feel that his true given name might not have been Lander, that he could have taken his given name from people he lived with or worked for. I came to this conclusion due to the fact that while he was in Ky there were quite a few people with the surname Lander. As a matter of fact a John Lander was surety on one of his daughter's wedding. Also puzzeling is the fact that he remarried in 1810 to Catherine Starr in Clark Co. Ky. When he disposed of his personal property in 1828 a Riley and Mahala Barber were the witnesses on the document. Could they be children by the second marriage? Lander was born between 1750 and 1760 according to census records. Riley Barber has been traced to Ill and then Kansas. In 1850 his wife was a Diane according to the Ill census. I hope this info is of use to you. John Barber b. 1818, Sligo, IRE, d. 18 May 1894, Indianola, Red Willow Co, NE, married Sarah May Foster, niece of James Foster, on 4 Oct 1841 in Toronto, Ontario, CAN. Do not know when John arrived in Canada, but think he had two brothers, Andrew and Samuel, also living in Canada. John and Sarah had a son, John, b. 1843 in Canada. They also had twin sons, Andrew and Samuel, b. 7 Apr 1848 in Lucknow, Bruce Co., Ontario, CAN. John and Sarah immigtated to Clarion Co. in 1849 and had five more sons. After the deaths of (1st)John, Sarah and Samuel, John and his sons, Andrew, William, (2nd)John, James, Charles and Robert migrated to Red Willow Co., NE in early 1870's. Andrew m. Margaret C. Wiant, Charles m. Emma Wiant and Robert m. Paulina W. Morosic and all lived and died in NE; William married Ida M. ?, lived and died in Washington Co, ID; John married Mary Elizabeth Vasbinder, lived and died in DesMoines, Polk Co., IA; James married Carrie V. Jennings, lived and died in Weld Co, CO. I would like to find decendants of any of these sons of John and Sarah. I would really be excited if I could locate descendants of John's brothers, Andrew and Samuel. I believe both stayed in Canada, although Andrew may have migrated to PA, also. My great-grandfather, Andrew (son of John) was a shoemaker while living in PA.

I'd like to try an experiment: I wanted to map out where the various Barber bunches started out from and ended up . Could you send me the names of your Barbers, the years involved, where they started out and where they settled? And where they lived in between? I'm primarily interested in the Southern Barbers, but maybe someone would like to do this for the Northern Barbers, the English Barbers, and the Australian Barbers.
