I'm going to try one more time on my Barber ancestor. John Barber - b: 1834 in England John's father's name was probably also John. He had a brother named William (b: 1836), who married a woman named Harriet. According to some info, they all came to US around 1859. m: 1) Mercy Sarah Sayer in 1859 in Oceana Co., Mich. she died in 1860 John joined the Union Army during the Civil War, then moved to Texas after the war. m: 2) Catherine E. Wood May 23, 1868 in Bexar Co., TX (San Antonio) d: Aug. 17, 1890 in Bexar Co. TX John was killed by a train. Children: 1) John James Barber b: Nov. 15, 1869 in Bexar Co., TX m: Mattie Sylvester May 11, 1894 in Burneyville, OK d: Nov. 19, 1949 in Bexar Co., TX 2) William E. Barber b: Nov. 30, 1871 in Bexar Co., TX m: Mary Lou ? d: 1942 I know everybody in the Barber line has a "John" - so here's mine. Anybody with any info on any of these people - please contact me! By the way,I'm descended from the first child, John. (Of course.) Thanks, Brenda Morris JMORRISCPA@aol
Hi Jack, I probably have already asked you, but did your John have a younger bro named Joseph b abt 1803? I can't find my Joseph's family. He may have been born in VA, as he married there, but I am not sure. Lots of our family came from NC & SC, VA & TN. Don't forget to use the great resource found in the Genealogy columnists who publish queries in newspapers. The most recent statistic I have heard is that only 10 percent of genealogists are on-line. Genealogy columnists who print queries in local or regional newspapers provide a great resource. Society journals are another in-print query resource to specifically target your query to the readers interested in a particular locale. Newspaper queries in advance of a research trip can provide the opportunity to prepare and meet local researchers. Other helpful hints for research trip preparation can be found in the archives of the research-trip-l@rootsweb.com list at http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/Miscellaneous/RESEARCH-TRIP.html See http://bostonstates.rootsweb.com for the section "How to place queries in Canadian and other Northeast newspapers " for the columnists that I have listed for the Boston States Migrations region. I currently have listing for Sandra Devlin, Judy Ash, Lee Jeffries, Erlene Davis, Ruby Cussack as well as Dave LePitre's columns. I will be updating the Boston States Migrations page with the on-line links now available for Dave LePitre's Stanstead Journal column below. Dear Linda, Elisha(1) married Jane Mitchell on 6 Nov in Pittsylvania Co. He Married Susannah Farmer on 4 Mar 1817 in Campbell Co. Elisha(2)? married Sarah Eddes on 13 Nov 1815. Almost every genealogy source on the web has Elisha Barber, who married Susannah Farmer, as also being married to Sarah Eddes. I am not sure it can ever be corrected. I have found some good information by using the web and e'mail but the bad information spreads like wildfire. I have a copy of a Pittsylvania Co. land transaction in 1822 where Sarah Eddes and Elisha Barber, acting as executors in their own behalf concerning the estate of her father John Eddes, sell land to David Keen. I also have other documents in the 1820s and 1830s concerning Elisha's financial woes in Pittsylvania Co. If you wish anything else just ask. Sincerely, George >George, > >Maybe I have asked you already, but what were the marriage dates for both of >these wives of Elisha (1) and the marriage date of Elisha (2)? > >Thanks, > >Linda >----- Original Message ----- >From: George Adams <gadams@macnexus.org> >To: <BARBER-L@rootsweb.com> >Sent: Wednesday, May 03, 2000 1:57 AM >Subject: [BARBER-L] Elisha Barber, Susannah Farmer
I need help sorting the two William Barbers in adjoining counties? The William Barber on the Oglethorpe Co. GA 1820 census is the right age, and in the right county, to be the son of George Jr., son of George Sr. of Craig's Creek, VA. He doesn't have anyone in his household that fits the description of the William Barber I'm looking for. The William Barber in Clarke Co. GA 1820 is too young to be the son of George Barber Jr., but his household does include persons who could be the family of my Ezekiel GRIFFIN who m. Polly BARBER in 1816 in Oglethorpe Co. GA. Additionally, they do have a son who says he was born in Clarke in 1821, while their oldest son was born in Oglethorpe Co. in 1819. So this William Barber is the one I'm seeking. Can anyone place him into a family group? He was born between 1775-1794 and died in Henry Co. GA 1828.
George, Maybe I have asked you already, but what were the marriage dates for both of these wives of Elisha (1) and the marriage date of Elisha (2)?
