Hi and I'm wondering if any of your Barber Families have a Aaron Barber in them. Where he came from is a real mistery. Aaron Gleason Barber s/o Aaron Barber/Barbour was born 9 May 1802 in Rutland, Vermont. Story has it that Aaron the father landed in N.Y. then moved down to Vermont. Thanks Phyllis
Good afternoon Virginia, Every once in a while I see where someone comes up with Ann Babcock as on of the wives of Moses Barber. I have him with two wives , one with 3 children and the second with 14. 14 children is a lot for one wife to have so it is possible that Moses Barber had three wives. Let me know what you find in your search for the correct answer. I see that you are corresponding with Warren. He is a good researcher and should give you some good information. Debbie, Do you know where in Ireland Robert was born? My father and his Barber ancestors came from County Sligo, Ireland. I have them going back to 1761. In the Diocese of Elphin Census of 1749, there are 5 Barber families in Co. Sligo: Thomas with 3 dependents Thomas with 4 " ROBERT with 4 " Joseph with 3 " John with 4 " In the 1665 Census Returns there are NO Barbers listed. They must have come from England to Ireland between those years. Any possible connection? Hi, Yes, That is the Moses Barber I would like more info on especially his son Daniel. Bobbie
I am interested in hearing if anyone on the BARBER list is researching English BARBERs. I have Norfolk BARBERs with some connections of WOODS, and HAYLETT. They came to Wood County, Ohio, US in the early 1900s. Also, I agree with a previous post concerning people not including state names with counties. The same might be true with counties and countries. In the US, many place names came from other countries of course. One last thought. It would also be helpful for listers to write all surnames in capitals in order for others to quickly scan. I am still quite a newbie in genealogy, but found this hint listed in books and online, and have found it helpful in use.
