    3. Are you still hunting for the William Banks who married Azubah McMaynes/McMain? I do have information - my Grandmother was Katherine (Banks) Dow. Early Family division - one group to Maine, the other to Oakham, Mass. to Keene New Hampshire and other N. Hampshire towns. Maine ones seem to trace, as cousins to General Nathaniel Prentice BANKS of Civil War, Waltham, MASSACHUSETTS. I'M THE MAINE group. The General comes down from several Johns to William/Azubah, then on to the General. After hyears have mjust connected with proofs. Hope you might write to me. Thanks. Will share. I have some Maine family letters. Becky B.

I would certainly say you have found "my" Sarah. I also strongly suspect that the Sarah baptised in Over Peover is the same Sarah.. Most probably, the Essex refernce to Over Peover is a mistake made when the birth was recorded. You mention 'there is a birth' and also the baptism of Sarah - may I ask, where did you find these and would it be possble for someone remote from the areas concerned, to obtain a copy of any of these records? Sarah marries a William GAMGEE 8/4/1788 at Heydon, Essex. She is born 15 Aug 1768 at Over Peover in Essex, however Over Peover is near Knutsford in Cheshire, not Essex. Also, having come from the South East of England Over Peover does not sound a very Essex type place name although I could be wrong. I have done a thorough search of maps of the area around Elmdon, Great Chishill, Heydon etc. and also used my local knowledge (my first job was delivering groceries in the area) and cannot locate Peover - you might want to join the Rootsweb Essex list, they may know! All these places are very near the Herts/Essex border, I have checked Herts but again no luck for Peover. Similar names are Pava, Paver etc. but not local to Essex! I suspect the GAMGEE above is your GAMBY so I might have found your Sarah but I cannot get back past Robert - too many Roberts marrying Sarahs. Now there is a Sarah BANKS bp 3/9/1769 of Over Peover Cheshire which would fit in nicely with her marriage in Essex - and her father is also Robert. Much of this is supposition but it may help. Best regards David Banks

    3. Hi Ian My source is the IGI and I suspect that the mistake is made when the info has been entered on there and not when it was recorded originally, I always use the IGI only as a 'guide' and I certainly wouldn't use it as fact to go to Over Peover in Essex which is over 3 hours from the real location! The christening is from the Peover record and the birth from the Essex record, do a search for Sarah Banks, birth/christening with a year of 1768 and a range of 2 years and all counties. I have rung Essex Record Office and they are sending me a form with all the charges on - it sounds about £0.75 pence per copy and then about £2.00 for recorded delivery postage to the UK - we can find out later about postage overseas. Cheshire RO don't open till 13:00 on a Monday, I will ring them later to find out their charges etc. Now the big question must be - How does a 20 year old girl from Cheshire end up 200 miles away in Essex? Unfortunately I am 3 hours from Chester and over 4 hours to Essex so I can't 'pop out' and get the info for you! There is a Joseph GAMGEE in Elmdon on the 1851 census living with a Grandmother Mary LOVEDAY and two other GAMGEE girls close by. Joseph appears in the 1841 with (presumably) his grandfather Joseph and a whole family of Lovedays. Further, I don't know how far back on the Gamgee line you have been but the IGI does have a few in Elmdon and Heydon. 3. Hello peoples Just a word of caution, if you look at the OneGreatFamily web site you will see it refers to the LDS and indeed one of it's domain names is LDSLiving - this may give you an impression that it is somehow linked with the Latter Day Saints Church. I have it in writing from the LDS church and I quote 'This is not our site nor are we affiliated with it in any way.' I have also checked the data and particularly on my favourite name the saying 'never mind the quality, feel the quantity' is never truer - most of the info on Banks is second hand or garbage and can be got from the IGI at no cost whatsoever. Looks like someone is trying to rip-off Ancestry.com!!!!! Regards Stingy of Reading aka David Banks
