Ed, Diane and Bill,Note that the data supplied by Bill, from the Setschan Familienbuch, is somewhat vague on the parents of Michael G and wife, Anna Schulz. There were substantial gaps in the KB data Karl Benz used to write the Setschan FB. I find the marriage entry of Michael in the Dolatz family bookGraebeldinger Michael, son of Franz Grabeldinger and Eva Meng*ca. 1858 Setschanoo 29 Nov 1883 DolatzSchulz Anna, dau of Mathias Schulz and Katharina Ruppert*18 Jun 1864 DolatzObviously someone has made an arithmetic error here. In cases of inexact birth dates as we have for Michael(1858 or 1868) the approximate birth date is arrived at by subtracting the age from the death date. In this case I would think that the 1868 date is correct since it is very rare to find a first marriage where the wife is older than the husband. One now finds the Franz Grebeldinger and Eva Meng family in the Stetschan family book.Grebeldinger Franz, *1834 Kanak +22 Oct 1913 Setschan1oo 14 Jul 1855 Kathreinfeld Meng Eva, dau of Nikolaus Meng and Christina Schneider*13 Aug 1835 Kathreinfeld1 Stefan *1865 Setschan +25 Jul 1915 Setschan2 Nikolaus *27 Dec 1867 Setschan3 Anna Ludmilla *15 Sep 1870 Setschan4 Johann *25 Mar 1874 Setschan2oo 1 Jul 1883 SetschanMassong Franziska, dau of Josef Massong and M A Schubert*1853 Sartscha Michael is missing from the above list of kids. Either he was born somewhere else or there is a gap in the Setschan records. There is a gap in the above list of kids where he would fit nicely in 1868.I have never run across any Banaters from Kanak. According to the Donaushwaebisches Ortsnamenbuch it is located a bit south of Gr Betschkerek. There is no family book for Kanak. One finds the marriage entry in the Kathreinfeld family book which has limited data after 1841.Grablzinger Franz*1825oo 12 Jul 1855Meng Eva*1827 Dave Dreyer On Wednesday, March 7, 2018 1:08 PM, Bill <senior7038@gmail.com> wrote: 1507 GREBELDINGER, Michael * um 1867 Setschan. † 1945 Lager Setschan. . oo? Diana and Ed,Forgot to add my two cents about service in the military.Clearly Franz would have been enrolled in the Austrian-Hungarian Army. It is likely he served in the 29th or perhaps the 61st Inf Regiment.Dave Dreyer On Wednesday, March 7, 2018 7:40 PM, David Dreyer <ddreyer@pacbell.net> wrote: Ed, Diane and Bill,Note that the data supplied by Bill, from the Setschan Familienbuch, is somewhat vague on the parents of Michael G and wife, Anna Schulz. Konak (Kanak) was colonized by Roman Catholic Bulgarians (Pavlikeni) around 1830. It is the same ethnic group you will find in Dudeștii Vechi (Óbesenyő, Altbeschenowa) and some other places in Banat. 500 Bulgarians arrived in Konak at the time and Konak was never German, although there could be some German families there, naturally. Konak was parochially covered by Boka, which was populated by Croatians in 1801 and 1821. Konak got its own parish, I think in late 1890's (I can check). I often asked myself which sources were used for the purpose of writing of Setschan FB ... over the years, a number of people asked me to research certain periods in Setschan parish records available in Serbia, so something is probably missing ...
