    3. Darrel, You are right, Setschan was founded in 1806 through internal migration. As the author, Karl Benz, remarks in the introduction to his family book, the greater part of these inital settlers came from Ulmbach. Other villages which contributed fair numbers were, Johannisfeld, Stefansfeld and Sartscha. Fortunately there are family books for all four of these places and all contain Haas families except Johannisfeld but none would fit your Elisabeth. Keep in mind that the Stefansfeld records are fragmentary with many gaps. If I understand correctly we are looking for a family Haas NN *ca 1770 oo NN Elisabeth *ca 1772 Katharina *ca 1800 Almost all the villages in the neighborhood of Setschan were settled in the period 1790-1820 so it is more likely, depending on the arrival time in the Banat, that the family came from a village in the Banat Heide many of which were settled 1770-1780 with settlers from Western Europe. As you may suspect Haas is a common German surname. One finds 8 pages of Haas in Stader. Of these entries one can pick out a considerable number which are connected with a Banat locality. Of these I checked about half for the family. Places checked, almost all of which contained Haas are, Jahrmarkt Guttenbrunn Hatzfeld Gottlob Freidorf Grabatz Mercydorf Tschakowa Marienfeld In the Marienfeld family book by Willy Kirsch I find a possible prospect Haas Heinrich *1775 oo NN Elisabeth *1775 Katharina *8 Jun 1796 Marienfeld But the weak link in all this is the assumption that the Elisabeth whose death is in the Dolatz family book is actually the mother of Katharina Haas. In the Dolatz family books, which I just received, its seems that Elisabeth came from Setschan. Katharina was married twice: in 1818 at Dolatz to Franz Helfrich (1792 to 1828) and in 1830 at Dolatz to Johann Bikar (1810 to 1866) and had children from each husband. I would think that perhaps Elisabeth's husband (whatever his first name was) would be buried in Setschan. Perhaps Katharina was born in Ulmbach since that was the mother town of Setschan which was founded about 1805? Thanks for any insight. Darrel Hockley

    3. Thank you Dr. Dreyer for the additional information. Glenn Schwartz mentioned to me that the Setschan Familienbuch is here in Regina at the Sask. Genealogical Library, so when it is warmer outside I shall walk over to it and do some research.
