    3. Thanks for the great responses. Deutsch St. Michael makes sense based on seeing that elsewhere. Is there a book for this village? The place of birth that is entered on the manifest looks like ?Mihael?, which could be Deutsch St. Michael. I hope that helps! ?Karen > On Oct 20, 2017, at 2:09 PM, Larry Fischer <lfischer46@gmail.com> wrote: > > In the wonderful "Emigration from Banat in the National Archives Ship > Records Extractions by David Dreyer" on RootsWeb is the following entry for > my grand aunt. > > RENON Elisabeth -[R550 ]- Age: 55 -From: Billed > -DtAr: Friday, 1 Jul 1921 - To: Detroit, MI -Via: Sou/NY -Ship: Berengaria > -Note: Born in Minaei? Message-ID: <007d01d34ae4$6db78920$49269b60$@comcast.net> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" I'm not sure where Minaei is, but keep in mind that the passenger ship manifests were written by people based on what they heard, and then the handwriting had to be interpreted later for the index. Mistakes are always possible in those two steps. I've seen surnames for my family that were incorrect both in manifests and indexes. I assume you know that your aunt is also listed in the Billed OSB in entry r256. She apparently lived earlier in Csatad where she gave birth in 1904 to a son named Jakob who died in Billed in 1905. There's no mention of Katharina or Barbara, who probably were born elsewhere and left Billed with their mother before any other activity that would put them into the church records. Rose (Rosalia) is listed since she was born in Billed in 1906. The other town that's mentioned is Gottlob, apparently where her husband Meinhardt was from. (I have the OSB because my paternal grandmother came from Billed - r219, child 3.) --- Eric -----Original Message----- From: BANAT [mailto:banat-bounces+penn77=comcast.net@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Larry Fischer Sent: Friday, October 20, 2017 2:10 PM To: BANAT@rootsweb.com Subject: [BANAT-L] Where is Minaei?
