Hello fellow List Members: I wanted to share the latest information regarding the status of the Banat List and the scheme presented by Ancestry regarding the revival of the archive search features. First priority is being given to bringing back the Hosted Websites (there are literally thousands of them). Ancestry will be bringing them back “a few hundred at a time” scanning the content to make sure there are no security issues. Next, will be the Family Trees/WorldConnect service, which allows people to upload GEDCOM family files for others to see. This portion of the service is currently under review, and will be brought back as a ‘read-only’ service in a month or so. The ability to upload new GEDCOM files will be added in the months afterwards. Finally, Ancestry will focus on bringing back the archival search features to the Mailing Lists once WorldConnect is fully operational. So, it will likely be many months before this service is restored. Should Ancestry determine that they cannot or will not return the searchable features, the historical Banat List information will not be totally lost. I made a complete back-up of the Banat List archives in November, 2017 - they are stored locally on my system. So, if the List is “re-set” and the archives are not brought back by Ancestry, the data won’t be totally lost. I will continue to monitor the status of the archival search feature, and update the List with information from Ancestry regarding any updates to the availability of the search and threaded features.
