Also there ar 7 volums of Stader, Stefan Sammelwerk donauschwäbischer Kolonist, a listing of all that traveled through Vienna to the Banat. They are at the Library of Congress, which I frequent from time to time. The Danube is a swift flowing river with many locks as it drops quite a bit from it's source to the end. How did these people steer/stop this Ulmer Schachtels boats ? I'm sure there were rapids, rocks trees etc. in their path. 1. [BANAT-L] Alsace-Lorraine & through Vienna lookups - BIERER & HETZEL
    2. Darlene Dimitrie via
    3. Hi Roy, 1) Not sure how the Alsace-Lorraine book is arranged, but I'm working a long shot here --- the ever-missing Bierer family. Also spelled Pierer/Perer/Berer/Buhrer/Buehrer/Byerer. They are supposed to have come from the Emmendingen area in southwest Germany, very close to the French border, but have been extremely elusive. There are many in the Emmendingen records, but not mine. Also a rumour that they came from Alsace-Lorraine - they appear in Barcs, Somogy, Hungary in approximately 1800. Supposedly the family scattered from Emmendingen in all directions. -specifically George Bierer and Ludovicus Bierer, both born in the 1770s, approximately. I'm starting to think that this family "time travelled" from another time :) (just kidding). 2) Would you be able to look up Peter Hetzel, born about 1760 in Raportsweiler, Alsace-Lorraine, married to Margaretha Weis. Unsure of year of immigration or location of marriage, however, by 1786, he was in Neu Schowe, Batschka - son Adam was born. Also any other Hetzels from this town. Please let me know if you require further information to do the lookups. Thank you very much for offering to do this.
