Marta Istvan, who lives in Gr Kikinda, is a long time contact for many Banat List subscribers for research in the Serbian Banat. Marta has now self published a book on the Donauschwabs of Gr Kikinda. This work, entitled "Gross Kikindaer deutsche buergerliche Familien vor derm Zweiten Weltkrieg", describes the German families and their contribution to the development of Gr Kikinda before WW II. Among these Donauschwabs were merchants, large landowners and those who created new industries They left their stamp on the city in the form of their architecture.and cultural institutions. These German citizens have now disappeared from the scene almost 70 years ago and without Marta's work the story of their roll in the develpment of the city as well. The book, 260 pp, 160 illustrations, has a trilingual text, Serbian, German and Hungarian. Price is 10 Euro plus postage.
