    1. [BANAT-L] Surname - Medeke

    3. Hello... Does anyone have the surname Medeke or know any villages where that name was common? I am looking for a man named Ernst Medeke, who was born around 21 Feb 1921. Unfortunately that is all that is known about him. He was still living in the Banat in 1948 and was in the town (or around) of Smederevo, but other than that it is unknown where he originally was from. I'm assuming he would have been in the military given his age, and ended up in the camps because of it, somehow ending up in Smederevo when the camps were closed. I thought if anyone knew any villages in the 1920's that held a group of Medeke's, it might give a starting place. Thanks so much! 3. Just a brief note Amy. I am not aware of any village of town Medeke in Serbia. There are some toponyms that sounds alike, though. I think that Medeke should be a surname. Smederevo is in, so called "proper Serbia", not in Banat and is situated on the opposite side of Danube from Banat http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smederevo Nearest settlements populated with Germans were Weisskirchen and the cluster of villages near Pantschowa (Kubin, Startschowa etc.) Best regards, StaĊĦa On Mon, Jun 2, 2014 at 3:02 AM, Amy Nichols <[email protected]> wrote: > Hello... > > Does anyone have the surname Medeke or know any villages where that name > was common?
